Whereas less than 400 quid a month bought me a 3 (big) bedroomed semi with a garage and front and back gardens in a not-totally-shit part of Nottingham.

Though that whole house now pulls in a lot less rent than that tiny little shithole...
However you are still at the whim of the landlord who after your first six months can't decide to get rid of you. And then you have to find another place etc etc

Buying is the only time your not at some one else's bequest

Buy to rent is good for a pension..but most deals leave you slightly out of pocket when you figure in tax insurance interest on the loan and various repairs..but when the mortgage drops due to inflation or youve finished paying..theres a nice monthly income

I own it, and yep, if you want stability buy a place.

As a landlord myself the only reason I'd ever kick someone out of my house now it's earning me an income is if they were obviously giant cunts (i.e. wrecking the place) or persistent late payers.

I don't know about most people but in general I've found landlords to be reasonably amenable. You're in their property, you pay the rent on time. Job done.

My tenants have always been long term. First two years, next 4. They left due to their own circumstances, it's expensive as a landlord to keep finding new tenants, and in my experience only idiot landlords have a high turnover.

When the world has 'world leader meetings' why does Merkel go, and not their President?

Because after 1949 most of the powers in Germany went to the chancellor. Not the president. Much like our queen doesn't go but the prime minister does.

I'm more or less referring to the D-Day stuff which is more or less ceremonial, which I would imagine their President is, I guess the reason is because much like my original post - no-one knows the Presidents name, and Hitler was Chancellor anyway, not President..
