Install Quake 3 later... i last played it about a year ago, before i moved on to Half Life CounterStrike, which i reckon still is the best game around... but i just wanna see what Q3a is like again...

Does anyone know where i can get Updates/Patches for Quake 3? So i can play online?

I have ADSL so big files wont matter, im currently downloadin one of Quake 3's MODs, called Bid for Power, anyone played this, whats it like?

Gray the latest Q3 patch is 1.31 and is about 30 mb or so. The good thing about ID games, the patches are sensible size You can get it from Barrysworld of course !

I'm also thinking of buying Quake, i've never played any of them, and seeing as DoD is mega hard to get into i may give a Quake a go, i really like Unreal Tournament though, but my arthritis riddled hands cant handle the speed of it any more

I think they do a boxed set of q2 stuff mate, in fact im sure they do. What you want is Q2,Q2 ground Zero and Q2 the reckoning, thats the original and the 2 mods. Not that I have played any Q2 at all since the official "ive given up Q2" some months ago

i saw a full set of qw-q2 (roflol q2 - sort of kidding) and q3 for 20 notes , and before we get all, q3 only has a 30 mb patch to update it, you might need osp (http://www.orangesmoothie.org/)55 mb ( to play on a few servers -

Well lo and behold i had bought Quake 2 of me mate many moons ago and i had left it at me momma's Throd, just installed it and played a little, its nice and smooth and very fast, but why is the blood and suchlike big blocks?Is it cause its old?I had me resolution right up as well.

Hmm, you an reduce the size of the particles in config.cfg, tha\t might be your problem. However i don't think there's a way to increase teh number of particles, so the rockets have nice particle trails, but they're far too small. Compared to the lovely smokey Q3 particle effects, it looks lame.

Quakeforge, which is a port of QW, has better particle effects than Q2 even.

I'm thinking about taking up Quake III again, it was only a few months old when I stopped playing it.

Glad to see the UC guide is still alive, very good information there.

If anyone wants "fodder" for their practise sessions I'll be available not exactly the best player in the world me.

Q3 doesn't have particle effects - all the trails and smoke are actually bitmaps

Some mods have implemented a sort of particle effect (Threewave for the FC for instance), but Vanilla Q3 doesn't display any particles

The number of them? Don't think so, as you said yourself you can fiddle with their size, but I think the number generated/displayed is set.
