Backpacking in Columbia? You hear some scary shit about tourists going missing in that part of the world. Then again, I went backpacking in my local Tescos. They found me 3 weeks later surrounded by empty cake boxes and chicken bones. Poor bastard was muttering about being kidnapped by a giant chocolate eclair...

Circumnavigate the planet. My brother disappeared for 6 months with £5000, £4000 should be good for 2 months and 2 people?
Granted, it literally the first one in the list i didn't test it properlyI tried to use that website Poag to plan something but it's so appalling I had to give up.
I just did this one quickly. Quantas will fly you in and out for £707 April->Jun per person. Not half bad really....Granted, it literally the first one in the list i didn't test it properly
Can also DIY it via http://www.kayak.co.uk/flights?mc=y
Stick in places youd like to go, set a airfare budget and play until you find somethign that matches.
Alternatively. Get a flight to somewhere, say Sydney, then another flight back from say Singapore...then work out the middle bit once you are there

Dont forget tho. That your safari will cost you more, by a fiar bit, than the list price. When you actually out and about there are alot of "roadblocks" or checkpoints that cost $10 per person in the vehicle or similar.Unfortunatly 4 grand aint all that these days, so think carefully!
Someone mentioned Safari - dont bother with southern africa, you might as well visit your local safaripark in the UK
Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda are the places to be if you want a true authentic experience, depending on the sort of safari you desire. - yes I've tried both, several time + I grew up in africa so FO!
With the time frame you have in mind however, I'd say Stick to Europe or Asia and see as much as you can andspread out the expenses to last you through the couple of months you have.
Another option would be to buy a cheap flight to the carabian and spend the time island hopping - Never been to the States ? Fly to the East coast, rent/buy a car and gogo!
