Yes the game is getting stale, but I think the only thing that keeps me playing is the thought of killing a few of the Zerg. They seem intent on making complete asses of themselves on these (and any other) boards and I always have a giggle to myself when I kill one.

Well the things that will lighten up this game is probably DF, and now i know it dosent even arrive in the next patch(which isnt even translated yet lol), it arrives in the patch AFTER 1.48, which means we have to wait another 3 months for it. And by then i dont think we have many players left anymore.
I really hope GOA will plvl:p the translation progress before they realize their customers have gone to another game, probably everquest 4 by then.

Then it seems like these type of games aren't for you.. the usual powerlevelling, get to 50 asap and do whatever you can as fast as possible.. sucks imho.. As I'm not 50 yet I can't fully understand you yet Nova, but I'm only 35 on my main yet on mid and I have several alts that I really enjoy playing with.. I give a flying Sh!t about being nerfed and all that, as long as I have fun playing I will continue to play..

go to some other game that can satisfy you, morrowind got some good singelplayer, lasts for a long time also.. tho you've been a great forum whore I'll still respect you for being the gamer that you are.. just my opinion...

What daoc is about is living a role in this world we choose to live in.. make friends, make a community that likes what's going on.. getting the most as you can from the game, and doing it in a way you find fun..

Good luck with finding the thing that will make you stay and keep on playing daoc.. I for one is a fanboy deluxe and my opinion shouldn't count for those that find daoc as a game to play while waiting for other games, but keep it in mind. the possibilities is almost endless and the game is what you make it..

/salute (and sorry for all the typos.. kinda drunk now, if flames I will answer when I'm a little more sober)

Best things done recently

Definitely the best things I have done for my gaming pleasure with Camelot in the last couple of weeks:

Delete my Alb/Excaliber characters;

Move to Mid/Prydwen;

Order the American version of Camelot.

Mid/Prydwen is very nice fun to explore. Just getting to a level where I can wander around a bit, and am having a great time in a Realm that is much nicer than I expected.

On the last point news of the expansion pack was the total clincher - just what decade do you think GOA will get round to translating that ffs???

:(

-Emain is boring
-Emain is boring because people always do the same. Run around like headless chicken, what else do you expect?
-it takes so long to get anywhere
-Be a Bard :D
-being level 50 is fun for about 2 days then u realise how ujust wasted 30+ days of play time(in my case)
-Well, some people powerlevel themselves to 50, just to be 50 - Other people relax and can't be arsed whether or not they are 50. Seems like you need to realise that being 50 isn't everything (which you just realised i think)
-levelling alts is boring
-True enough - for some persons that is. I enjoy playing low level chars and seeing them grow. If your goal is to level your alts to 50, well rethink what you just said ^^ (looks at lvl 50 quote being boring)
-im a tank and cant solo in rvr
-LOL! Can't argue with that :) - Should of made a Ranger tho ;)
-rvr is extremes, either gank albs/mids or ganked by albs who have more numbers than you
-Without tactics, yup.
-keep/relic taking is boring
-Can't really comment on that one.
-there is nothing new to see, nothing to explore
-Be patient. Or just try to hatch an egg in the meantime (ie. GOA...)
-crafting is utterly mindless
-Right on =)
-this game is just so stale now
-Well, like Sortbane pointed out, perhaps these games aren't for you. Who knows, I'm not the one to judge upon that.

Anyway, I shared my feelings ;)

Cheers.

Oh godd this is true, although I made a lot of good friends getting there, so it was worthit.

-levelling alts is boring
Oh godd this is true

-im a tank and cant solo in rvr
If the target doesn't have mez ability's then I stand a chance.

-rvr is extremes, either gank albs/mids or ganked by albs who have more numbers than you
Yeah, makes rvr utterly shite half the time.

-keep/relic taking is boring
I dunno, I use my aimbot and wallhack.

-there is nothing new to see, nothing to explore
Wish hib had more places to explore since thats one thing I love doing.

-crafting is utterly mindless
I thought UO's crafting system was bad, but it walks all over daoc's and is 'fun'

-this game is just so stale now
I enjoy 'talking' on irc and browsing forums rather then daoc now.
Half the reason for this is cos of Goa's speed to pull out those patches which, for a while make the game more enjoyable.

-I think I should give Kainz all my weapons cos he's such a nice guy
I truly agree.

pvp server = needed. i feel the same as you thats why my usa version is arriving any day now, and i'll be jumping straight on the pvp server when it goes live. them kinda servers are so much more fun...instead of 3 realms fighting over the keeps it will be probably hundred alliances fighting over them, constant wars anyplace anytime, always have to watch your back etc. i cant wait for it.

I haven't hit 50 yet. If I do I will hunt some items, help others xp, travel around a bit ( still loads of places in Mid Alb frontier that I haven't seen), play one of my alts on pryd. Btw we haven't taken a relic yet, so at least 1 challenge left ;)

Ehm, sorry to burst your bubble, but it will be at least three months until it goes live. Those three months it will be a closed beta to which ppl should have registred a couple of months ago...

I'm quite glad I'm taking my time getting to 50...

I'm only 36 and sometimes it seems like I will never make 50.

I do however appear to be the norm rather than the expeption. This means that when I reach th ehigh 40's a lot of people will too and we can start looking at serious masses warfare, which was what I was always looking forward to.

I'm still exploring new areas and having that thrill when I see purple enemies.

I can see why the people who powerleveled are getting bored with it..

Although FFX comes out soon so I might be playing a lot less for a couple of months ;-)

And a great server for the powerlevellers out there as getting the lvls quickly will be able to gain an advantage.

One problem with the PvP server could eb for people who don't lvl quickly or those coming in at a later stage may find it very difficlut to get involved.

But the different dynamic in itself makes it interesting...

Ppl play a game + 6-8 hours a day for several weeks on end, then complain they've seen it all and get bored :p what did you expect ?

DAoC is a relatively new MMORPG so content is still low atm - 1.49 & 1.50 add TONS of content for high-lvls, so the answer to yer problems is errrr wait

Indeed.

THe most I have ever played on 1 game before (discounting playing GT to GT3 A-spec) were two of the FF games Each clocking up about 100 hours each. However both games I gave up on in the end about 3/4 of the way through because I got fed up with them having attempted to fit everything in rather than just complete them......

So far I have clocked up over 300 hours of Daoc gameplay which seems, frankly excessive.

I'm a bit bored of parts and i might lay off more than I have been as lvling is tough at 35+ levels, although I will still hunt with guildmates...

Im not 50 yet and wont be in a while, but imo the game just started, and all the "great things" are yet to be seen, DF for example. Takes time to get anywhere? Maybe that's why they call it "massive" ;>

All I can say is, if nothing else, Daoc is a good place to meet and make friends (and enemies). The gameplay to me is secondary to the player interacton. Beats the hell out of spending all nite in an irc chat room. If nothing else, at least you got some sexy wiggling norse midden's backside to follow round (even if sadly it is a bloke in RL 99% of the time :( ).

Life for me started at 50 (level that is) because then I could devote more time to helping m8's in the guild without worrying about exp/quest drops etc. I suppose it depends on the individual and what he wants out of the game. Must be a bit tough if you are the "loner" type though.

IMO DAOC is seriously boring.

- Total lack of depth in both PvE and RvR.
- The way RvR works means there's virtually zero scope for individual 'skill'/intelligence for the vast, vast majority of players.
- Levels are too important.
- Mythic enjoy swinging the nerf bat despite having dubious understanding of the consequences (e.g. stealth, which is very overpowered now but ruined in the future).

etc.

I rarely log on nowadays, and I'm thinking of cancelling. I just don't have patience for DAOC anymore, especially when I think of all the other games that I am/could be playing - VF4, Psyvariar, Winning Eleven 6 on PS2 and Biohazard on GC atm, with Morrowind to look forward to.

Even the new expansion pack doesn't really excite me, let alone DF.

New engine? Cool, but only eye candy in the end.
New classes/races? Yeah, like I really want to go through the DAOC levelling grind again lol
New areas? Could be interesting... depends on how much new geography and content they intend to introduce, and might bring some much needed variety to the game.

Think i dont know that? :p

Mates of mine are officers in a big guild over there which i will be joining, and the closed beta has now started. The 2nd wave will be starting within 2 weeks they reckon, which i'll probably be in, and people are actually thinking the server will go live in a month. (no chance of 3 months, and they may be boosting everyones levels in it too so they can test it quicker and open it sooner)

One problem with the PvP server could eb for people who don't lvl quickly or those coming in at a later stage may find it very difficlut to get involved.

Not really because when people kill you, they get experiance depending what con you are, so purples are never gonna kill greys for exp coz theyll get none, and its highly unlikely they'll attack greens for what its worth. Also theres a timer after you die where if someone kills you within 30 minutes (i think) of you already being killed, no exp will be given. I think this rule is to keep the pve going or the server would be a big mess of carnage everywhere lol.

You lose exp and con when people kill you though :(

Well, my main char isnt lvl 50 still, but i hope to get there soon anough :)

>-levelling alts is boring

Depends. Im playing Healer, cause from the start Guild need one, now im even enjoing him :) But my alts (several of them) im playing for fun :) For example im making Scald just for Quests, he is making ALL the quests i can find. Im playing RM to have pure fun of the game :) Im playing Friart on Pryd cause i liked his description on Satacombs and so on.

>-keep/relic taking is boring
why? i havent seen Hibs taking any Relic till now

>-there is nothing new to see, nothing to explore

Are you sure? Our 50s having a lot of fun as i can see :) Look at Sub's posts regarding killing of Giant and trying to kill Dragon - that's fun :)

>-this game is just so stale now

Well, some ppl can find fun, others cannot :) But i agree with you - Warrior and SS hero - is VERY hard to play in RvR solo.

damn, it seems as tho this game which i once enjoyed a lot is now just...well empty

Well Novamir, told you that you shouldn't push so hard for 50, didn't I? . I believe that this boredom that many people get when they reach 50 is that they are too damn hard-number result-oriented when they play this game.

Get exp. Expexpexpexp to 50 as fast as possible on as few camps as possible. If I level fastest, I must be the best! "It's so boring to exp, it will be so nice to reach 50, need 50 to rvr". Items. Get all items you need as fast as possible, itemsitemsitemsitems. Got all items. Damn bored again  . What now? Rvr! Need rps, rprprprprprp, need bountypoints and realm abilities within the next 2 years, gotta getgetget, how to get fast? Get bard, charge emain, wall after 30sec, die, release, repeatrepeatreapeat. Damn, emain is so pointless, rvr is boring! etc etc

I believe the game will last much longer if ppl try to drop the numbercruncher achiever attitude and ask themselves how they really would have most fun. It's very hard, I know it. Played a similar(but yet so different) game for 6 years before I came here and was stuck in the achiever mode for 3 of those.

Personally I am level49 and didn't push my exp for a few weeks now. Can still take an hour here and there to kill some mobs in interesting places. It can be fun. I try to find different ways to rvr - different areas, differnt tactics, different sizes of groups, soloing - against different classes. Got some heavy lag problems sometimes but can live with it. Don't care how much rp or how many i kill, getting xxx rp doesn't make me shake my fist - a good tight fight will. Being without a fight for 15mins/running emain wthout a bard doesn't bore me - doing rvr the same way all the time/rp farming does. Most people doesn't think that Mentalist is a very powerful class, but with different tactics I am learning that I can take out most classes and thus be able to solo rvr - unless they play better than me of course. I have no love for albs or for Gromit, but I have to say he has to be the best player I have ever fought here, overpowered class or not. Bastard always finds me first :p I regularly kill hated lev45+ minstrels now altho not yet 50s often (but soon!). Problem is groups with speed, but for each day I'm gettng better at avoiding them. I'm sure it's possible as a hero also (no you dont HAVE to attack everything you see at any given time).

Well I'm sorry for the long post, but getting tired of all these ppl who whine over the boredom when there are so many aspects of the game not connected to hard numbers that can be enjoyed. Will vary from person to person, but I'm sure there is somethng for each one of you.

Zana has described the problem precisely. I think that many people get bored when they arent gaining levels or new skills or whatever. I have seen many players steamroll to 50 then almost completely stop playing that char, which seems kinda perverse to me. I guess that its all about levels ultimately.

I also think that the way GOA are managing the patches is going to make the problem of bored players drifting away much more acute. Stateside servers get patched very frequently, new skills, DF, class tweaks, all of this keeps players from becoming bored. We have waited nearly 2 months since 1.45, and still no formal ETA on 1.48. I'm not flaming here, but GOA should realise that games of this nature rely on new content to keep players interested.

Great post Zana.

I've been playing on Excal since the day it was switched on, but my main is only lvl 34. Not cos I'm a n00bi3 or whatever, simply cos there's more to these type of games than just leveling. Just playing to farm XP quick is dull.

Admitedly the level system is a pain in the arse, it does hinder the commmunity in a MMORPG. UO is still miles ahead when it comes to a game world that creates a community, mainly cos of its "use a skill, get better at it" system, proper trade skills and the more flowing chat method. However, sadly we're stuck with levels even though it's a crap system, got the mindless repetition of EQ to thank for that

Very soon after commercial release I predicted that those players who were in such a rush to level, would be the first to get bored and want to quit the game. Are they all members of the "gimme" generation? Have they never learned patience? Game players are often an all too accurate reflection of society as a whole. I would love to do some analysis of this ... how well does the uber-player's attitude toward the game, reflect their attitude towards life in general? Now there's a thesis topic. :p
