I'm sure Norway doesn't necessary require the income from what ever they make out of whale hunting, being a rich country as it is.

Anyway won't argue anymore since I'm not Norweigian, but I rate whale eaters as low as people who eat dogs. Or pandas!

Norway makes cash primarily on oil, that's the state (Statoil) that makes that cash, north in norway its primarily fishing that the man in the steet makes cash on.
whales are among other fish rescourses they harvest from the sea, and if you take away that income those ppl wont be able to make a decent income.

Lumikki, you can't rate whale eaters on same level as pet eaters, cos whales are obviously not a typical pet.
but i rate you on same level as my retarded neigbour when it comes to argumenting your points.
that's a valid comparison based on your arguments.

Let's stop killing animals and die ourselves then, djeez :eek2:
Man has allways been around killing animals for food and clothing, why would we stop now? Because there are some greenpeace retards defending EVERY SINGLE animal on the planet and eating rabbit food whole day? I think not, i agree that some species should be protected but FFS not EVERY SINGLE ONE!
as long as everything is controlled there is no problem is there?

I respect vegetarians, time vegetarians show some respect towards me.

ps: i AM an animal lover, just not in the extreme way

and now let's all get drunk on some animal-free beer

There wasn't always 6 billion people on the planet. If we all went around with bear skins on our backs like the cavemen did, I don't think the poor bears would last very long considering the amount of humans there are in ratio to the number of bears. Same goes for any animal, if we all decide that we have a taste for whales then they aren't going to last long either. We have to be much more conservative about what we do because there are now so many people on the planet. I've never minded eating farmed animals because there's no danger of them being wiped out or becoming endangered.

It's not being a "Green Peace nut" or a hippy. It's just common sense.

You should have taken that comment with the humour that it was intented to be taken. It's my common sence telling me eating whales is wrong, no matter what facts and figures you back it up with saying "it's ok" won't make me change my mind. End of story.

I get it...cos this is a post about banning stuff...Jupitus Banned Lox !!!...it all makes sense now.
And, on the hunting note..i have seen the Bicester Hunt set off from Market Square (in Bicester). While i was in the army and posted out that way. They are the biggest bunch of arrogant assholes on the planet. And, of all the people i have seen..that is quite a feat. They have no respect for peoples property, pets, or belongings. Get in their way and they will just knock you to the ground with the horse and spit on you while you are trying to get up. I would like to get the hunters into a large field and set a dozen tigers on them...for sport. Lets call it wanker hunting. And, if they bolt into a hole/up a tree/in a house...shoot them !!!....see how they like to be ripped to shreds for "sport". They are Ignorant too...fancy saying that they will all lose their livelyhood if it gets banned. Simple soloution
GET A REAL FUCKING JOB TOSSERS. Make something worthwhile.

Oh yeah..ban fox hunting (o: ...even..ban Lox hunting (o: :m00:

thing is it isnt controlled. Nature never meant whales to have humans as their predator and the whales have lived in balance with other creatures in the ocean/sea for ages, so hunting them on a (semi) large scale will most likely lead to less whales over time.
I might be wrong on this, but I doubt anyone knows exactly how many whales there are and allthough there is a fishing limit, they havent always worked well (meaning that fishes still decreased in numbers leading to less fishes for the fishermen eventually).

Unless they actually breed the whales themselves, there is no way of keeping the whale population constant. While they are being killed, it will always decrease, even if only slightly. The longer they are killed, the less of them there are to breed and over a long period of time it could begin to make a significant mark on the amount of whales in the waters, if it isn't already.

We're fools if we think we have any real impact on the long term future of this planet. Its been through worse times than we can possibly inflict and survived quite nicely.

Hmm I think it might survive for a bit due to us cutting down our output of CFCs and sussing out enviromental changes, or at least being aware of them. But we still got a nice potential to cock it all up this millenium, dont write the appocolypse off yet :)

The trouble with fox hunting and wale hunting too in my oppinion is not that you are just killling some animial, but that the method of execution is a bit barbaric. Im no expert on whale hunting, but ive heard its actually rather hard, and can be a long process to kill a whale...

Now its the twenty first centuary, if these animals must be killed to save livestock or feed people then ok, but do it in a twenty first centuary way theres really no skill in todays day and age in prolonging the hunt and suffering of any living creature.

the planet will survive, but we might manage to kill so many species that we ourselves go extinct. I have little doubt that this planet will always have life on it, excluding some really big disasters like a big meteor or the sun burning up, which we cant create/control. However as I said we might mess it up for ourselves though.
Also I dont think we should make a species extinct just so we can have a better life. It might not effect the environment much in the end, but it is still a risk and it isnt needed.

the bible tells us that man was given everything on Earth by God for him to use. Therefore the little baby Jesus thinks killing :m00: for food is ok!

Amen to that, though it seems only the newbie vegi's will make a big fuss about you eating meat. Thankfully the majority of them just keep quiet. Its not like i'm going to run up to sombody eating a 4-bean salad and start trying to put them off by telling them the lettice isn't 'dead' yet :D

the problem with fox hunting aint the hunt itself its the use of large amounts of dog's hunting the foxes and tareing them apart wich i hope most ppl understand is a bad thing.

about whale huting, experts do not know how much whales are left in the northsee but the fact that the norweigan fishermens have had a hard time fishing the quota might be a indication that the whales indeed are getting allot fewer then before, and if they keep fishing them like they done so far they might end up like the in the baltic see where the cod is close to extinct at some places due to much fishing.

as for the "we have allways killed and eaten animals so why stop now?"
its a fact that if we instead of breed cows and shit actualy grow crop. we would solve the food crisis for the poor nations and get about 30%more energy per square metre. but then of course meat tastes good and pay's better for the farmers then crop and most ppl dont give a shit about the poor ppl in the world. and if they would get closer to the standard we live at world population would rise allot faster and the stuff thouse countries export would become allot expensiver... :>
