Damn I miss my TV and Film section. Oh well.

I've just finished watching the 4th series of The Wire (Season 5 is due soon and will be the final season). If you've not managed to catch this series yet, then please do. It has to be some of the best television I've seen in a long time.

It's set in Baltimore and shows both sides of the drug war. From the corner boys, up through to the king pins and from the beat police up to the mayor of baltimore. It shows that both sides of the coin can be pretty similar a lot of the time.

Great cast, Great scripts and a spawling story arc that had me starting the next episode as soon as the last was over.

Each series is pretty short, usually between 10-13, 1 hour episodes. Series 1 and 2 can be got pretty cheap. 3 has just been released on DVD and 4 is availble from all good dodgy places

Series 4 has been on FX already, though I missed the first episode, so I haven't watched it. I've got the first 3 box sets, can't wait to get the 4th.

Two words: FUCKING OWNAGE.

The worst part about this show is that there isn't more of it!

Definitely the best show I've ever seen on TV in so many ways.

I'm in the process of rewatching all four seasons, midway through season three at the moment, it's simply fantastic, the sheer realism and quality of the entire show shines through in every scene. It's completely raw and sometimes very harsh, but it's Baltimore.

Omar is indeed ownage, but Stringer is definitely my favourite character, closely followed by Bodie, pure loyalty and no fear.

Absolutely cannot wait for season five, the second there is a mega DVD boxed set of this thing out I will snap it up.

Omar is the obvious fan favourite, a superb character that is easy to like, clever and honourable (or at least as honourable as thieves can be).

I need to get myself an imitation g-pack to sit on my desk, that would rock.

"yellow tops" "WMD's" etc.

It's hard to resist writing even more about the characters or other aspects of The Wire, it has so much quality in every area!

I'm glad everyone agrees about my love for this show. My girlfriend actually bought me the first two series for my birthday, last September. I'm still kicking myself that I waited till Feburary to getting around to watching them.

Having read some wiipedia places, it seems season 5 will be the final season. David Simon has said he can't see much more story coming out of it, unless they went down the route of explaining the influx of hispanics into the baltimore area.

Unfortunatley none of his staff are hispanic and so the research would be to much.

After the end of series 4, I'm quite shocked that he can say there is no story left to tell, especially with all the threads left up in the air. I just hope they bring them all together in the 5th season and I also hope that it airs this year.

Lastley, if you haven't seen 300 yet, another good reason to see it, is that McNaulty is playing one of the main characters

It's a shame, because I could watch this show and never get bored I feel.

But you have to stand by his decision and think about it, he's saying he can't bring in a new story arc past season five because they simply don't have the extensive knowledge that they have used so far. He doesn't want the quality to drop or the realism to be lost and I appreciate that.

I'd love to see a prequel season almost, detailing the rise of Avon and Stringer, plenty of material there I should think, the only problem is the lack of real locations and they absolutely insist on having that real raw Baltimore feel.

Not to mention who will play Stringer and Avon as they rise to power?

I've cruised my way up to the end of season 4 over the last couple of months. Amazing show, really gripping. 5 is out on DVD and so I'll be purchasing on pay-day.

The phraseology is awesome. One of our suppliers missed something off a delivery today and when I spoke to the guy in their office, I asked when he could sort me out a "re-up"

You really need to give it more time, it is unquestionably the best TV show ever made.

I have just finished watching Season 1 of this and oh my fucking god what a show.

Absolutely the best thing I have seen since The Sopranos, so pleased I have another 4 seasons of this to watch.

Its made me so happy to find something great.

Yeah it's brilliant, I think season 4 was my favourite but there isn't a bad season.

As one reviewer said at some point on some website (vague I know) "there are 2 types of people, those who love The Wire and those who haven't seen it yet" or something along those lines.

The depressing thing is that I can't imagine TV getting anywhere near as good. Ever. Generation Kill was very very good, but wasn't quite as engaging. Lets hope David Simon and Ed Burns get on another story soon, though given how personal The Wire was to them I don't know if they can do anything else quite so epic.

Have a look at True Blood, also from HBO. Very highly rated, although I haven't got around to watching it yet.

Oddly enough I just finished watching all 5 seasons of The Wire again, just last night

Trem you'll love it. Season 2 heads off on a different tangent leaving you thinking "er wtf" but it all makes sense thereafter.
