We are talking about American ghettos here, not the uk where a single mother with 4 kids can earn more than the national average wage by just sitting on her arse. I think hes implying people would steal provisions just to be able to live (although Tupac was hardly living in poverty when he was younger)

Yes quite.

I don't live in either :D

Doesn't mean i can't have a hard time(caue sour goverment totally neglects your working effort when you lose your job) getting by too.

I bet even in the "ghettos" there's places to get food, food drives, social help of some sort, friends, family.

People who turn to crime have no fucking excuses. This isn't the 1800's where you need to steal a loaf of bread to live. If someone works hard enough they can get a job, and any job is better than crime.

So it's "ok" some "poor black man" stabs my in the stomach and steels my wallet because he "has to"..bollocks, people that affect other peoples lives in a negative way should be locked up in a shit prison. They should then be taught a skill and learn that fucking skill 12 hours a day then come out and use that skill to gain a job.

The government needs to work closley with employers to make sure ex cons with this solid skill can find employment. The ***** should not be able to sit around playing XBOX and watching TV.

Some people go to prison for crimes commited by accident (You find your best mate sleeping with your GF, you punch him a few times and he has you done for assult etc) Others commit crimes in full knowledge of what they are doing.

Sorry, but being around scumbags all my life, i dont believe in this reabilitation lark, but thats just me. Yes, you get the odd story about how "prison changed my life" but for every reabilitated person, I bet there are dozens more who arent. I know quite a few people who have been to prison or have been in and out of prison, "piece of piss mate, cushy life". And therin lies the problem.

Getting the number out of the blue I'd say its 1 rehabilitated per 20 (or worse) unrehabilitated(sp?).

IMO the way the article describes is too harsh, as many of you have already said. It prolly will result deaths and as the Seel said the possible, condemned innocent ppl are yet again to suffer tremendously because of system like this.

The current system is good, having facilities where we can have prisoners contained. It's just that the facilities and the prisoners rights should be adjusted ie:
  • the luxuries should be taken out of the cell (no tv with consoles etc, no stereos, radios etc. gadgets making your time go faster)
  • the private showers should be removed (yes, they actually do have private showers in their cell at some places nowadays)
The list could be continued like forever.

IMO it's their life in the cell that should be made lots worse. Prison really shouldn't be a 5-star Hotel where you can live your life well during the penalty period and educate yourself a bit in taxpayers expense. Nothing wrong in education there, don't take me wrong, but those fuckers really don't need to pay for anything there as we, the taxpayers, sponsor them in their every little given chance wanted we or not. And they still can choose to forfeit it all just starting to rant off again when they get released.

If someone is yelling after the rights of the prisoner, when will I get my rights as a taxpayer to refuse giving a single cent from my taxes to facilitate prisoners life better?

My dad was a prison officer at a cushty prison, he said it was ridiculous what they got away with, it was like Butlins for them.

He then went to Perth (Grade B i think) which is one of Scotlands oldest prisons. That was a harsh prison. none of these nicey nicey stuff.

I'm all for taking away prisoners human rights tbh. I mean real criminals btw not petty theives, murderers etc

In the uk yes, we are quite lucky in that our government will throw ££££ at us, just to have kids and sit on our arses. A young black male in the poorest parts of the USA has literaly no chance of making it out of there.

heh, noone said it better then pac, to many songs to name where he shows political problems, problem for young black males etc (look towards earlier albums however). Immo tech does say it great though, much much respect for him.

"I didnt have a criminal record till i had a record" says it best.

Read this ages ago and I fucking agree with it, to many people throwing around the human rights bollocks.

You kill someone you are void from any human rights the moment you made the decision to destroy someones life.

Prisons should be tough, they should be taught discipline along with skills that can be used to provide a better way of life when released. The government also needs to create some system where released criminals can put there skills to use without being judged constantly based on his past.

We are to soft in this country with regards to everything, it pays to be a scumbag even for the pettiest of thieves, they get no real punishment and probably eat better in jail than they do outside anyway.

Bring back a years national service to 16 y/o's use that period to teach the fuckers that have no respect to give it. The country will be in a much better shape for it.

I am sick of hearing about released criminals re-offending. Statistics show that not many actually stop breaking the law so just keep them locked up, it has got to be cheaper than taking them to court again and wasting more police time catching them after they have broke the law again.

First and foremost an example needs to be set. 12 y/o's giving pensioners hassle should be spanked till they cant sit for a week, little fuckers.

Anyway burn them all :p

Murderers should suffer this, yes. People commiting MOST violent crimes should suffer this, yes.

But for people out there saying, 'crime is crime, nuff said', it's complete bollocks. You honestly think for example a man putting his dying wife at ease as he watches her suffer day in day out should be punished like this? Afterall, it being against the law and all, 'crime is crime'...

Here here, we should round up all the p2p offenders and people who speed and put them in tented fields.

It still applies though that's the thing, you know what you're doing is against the law (I do.), just it's funny how few people are prepared to take the fall if they get caught.

Around 1 in 3 is probably more accurate. At least the studies I could find about the UK showed a recidivst rate of 67% within the first two years, couldn't find any other.

Again with the euthanasia question. A man putting his suffering wife to death would know what he's doing is seen as murder in the eyes of the law, yet if you're begged to do it for a loved one, the morals make it less black and white then simple comparison of the law and fear of getting caught.

<breathes> long sentence :(

I'd say "Screw you, kill yourself if you're in such a hurry."

Then again...morals don't really come into question with me *finger in mouth* :)

Yes, any 15-18 year olds caught for comiting crime should be put in the Army for 2 years. Also any 10-14 year olds caught doing something illegal more than once should be put in at 15. See how mouthy those little fuckers are when they have a drill sargent spitting in thier face.

Can imagine it.

well, make it so then that if you get thrown in jail the first time you get the rehab / moral / school-like prison system, and if you find yourself locked up for the second time you get the spartan hell tent prison,

i reckon for the Uk this wouldnt work.
they cant even be arsed to input data of convicted murderers, rapists and peadophiles who came back home from other countries.

adding info of how many times someone went to prison is probably out of our governments capabilities.

I kind of Agree in a way to what Azarus is saying. As Tupac said "Instead of a war on poverty, theres a war on drugs so the police can bother me" or "I aint never done a crime I didnt have to do"
there is no crime you have to do. see a child getting raped and want to kill the man? do it but you didnt have to do it. free will doesnt allow us to get forced into anything cept death (crude, but more less the truth). he didnt have to steal to get money for weed, he could get a job or join the army.

tho prison should be rough but rehabilitating.

would be good, but i wouldnt like walking around 100's of 100 criminals while being an half-honest recruit ;D could probably be worked out i guess. the 15 year one is a quite good one

I agree on the compulsory national service. Although I can't think where it would be best to do it? 16 so you take a year before you start work/go to do Alevels?
Or do you do it at 18 (assuming the compulsory school/apprentice thing comes in) before you go to uni?
Would definatly help teach the youth/chavs some discipline.

WTF should i have been forced to join the army. Would have done nothing for me, except delay my education and career for 1/2 years and it would have made my life hell....

No its about definition, someone killing someone in self defence, is not and shuold not be dealt with in the same terms as someone making the effort to go and kill someone.

With regards to the man putting a dying wife at ease, this is not the same as a gang of 15 y/o's kicking the shit out of an 85 y/o man.

Yaruar, you may not have enjoyed it, however you cannot deny it would have taught you discipline.
The idea is that normal people do it, dont enjoy it, but come out and carry on with their career (remember its not really a delay because everybody has to do it), while chavs and disobedient little scrotes that are the scum of society would go in, probably hate it too, but be taught discipline and respect so that when they came out, they were hopefully no longer the scum of society.

Its easy for people to say "there is no crime you dont have to do". Normally spoken by middle to upper class people who dont know what its like to live on the bread line. When I used to work at a grocery store, my boss used to give some lady, her weekly shopping for free, because he knew, she didnt get enough money from the government to live off. She wasnt a drug addict, nor an alcoholic and would only take necessecities off my boss, no luxuries. She had a disabled child that needed care 24/7. But you are right, if she didnt get her shopping for free, she didnt "have" to steal it. She could just go on the streets and beg, leaving her disabled daughter at home to look after herself.

Yeah, the daily beatings i would have got would have been great, and the living in fear of my life... Although growing up as a different looking teenager in and arround barrack towns we lived in fear of beatings from squaddies anyway (although we did laugh the one time a group of paras got their arses kicked by a good friend of mine...)

Although all the chavs would have had great fun going out at weekends and wrecking pubs and beating the crap out of civvies...

I have dicipline, it would also have fucked up my academic studies so therefore would have been counterproductive.

Some people it would help, a lot of people it wouldn't

But it was the largest waste of time I have evern been through, and I have never stolen or crashed as many cars as I did during the time (4 cars), ehh, not stolen cars.. but stealing things in general, food, gasolin, clothes etc and such things.

I mean, how can someone take these military pricks seriously?
For some reason I was ranked best solider in my unit, might been cause I am very competetiv and was rather well fysicaly fit at the time (not like now :()
