Ah, just caught sight of this (back from the Docs). The lancets figures are only "controversial" because they're inconvenient (as alluded to above, and as can be seen in the linked story)...

That seems a bit unlikely. I think you might be thinking of civilians killed on American soil (Pearl Harbor).
