I have some questions I need answering, may seem stupid to some but they are in my brain so I thought I would share them -

1. Vitamins, you know multi-vitamins how did they ever make them? How did someone find the vitamin in a fruit and extract it/copy it?

2. (may offend but it isn't meant to). You know how mentally disabled people always seem happy, they don't seem to mind having disabilities, yet people who are sound in mind and body always, for the most part, seem miserable. Are these people actually not disabled and its the considered normal people who are?

3. Private number plates, why do people spend hundreds and sometimes thousands on a private number plate then have their full name printed underneath it, you know because you can't actually figure out what the private plate is meant to fucking say anyway. Where has this shocking trend come from with private plates and people wanting to let strangers know their full name? We get told to shred our junk mail but not our number plates.

4. Why do certain cars make me depressed? I don't mean I dislike the cars I mean they actually make me depressed and want to end it all right there and then. I get so depressed when I see a Toyota I almost cry, it isn't a thing I have planned it just instantly happens.

5. Music. Where did music start? How did it come about? I can't work out how it all started who decided that the sound was a good thing, who decided you should dance to this sound?

Thats from today, the car thing always happens to me but I didn't realise it until today.

il answer your first one.

It can be observed by experimentation which foods provide various nutrients (ie vitamin c). In the case of vitamin c (ascorbic acid) it can be synthesised easily in the lab and is easy to add to foods. Various other minerals and vits are more complex/ less complex to make in the lab but generally its easy enough to do or one cna extract them via various chemical methods.

oh and you can use something called mass spectroscopy to analyse the make-up of a given compound and thus work out its ingredients and combine that data with xray crystallography to provide structural data on the compound so that you can copy it in the lab or work out how to extract it from something.

Perhaps intelligence is a curse - to be sentient in a huge uncaring universe - ignorance is bliss...

I must add that from these questions are you perhaps a tad depressed?

The music question: Our music scales are very simple mathematically. A c note one octave higher than the previous c is exactly double it's frequency, and the intervals are 12th roots. Human brains are wired for music due to its educational purposes (songs about history) and usefulness for dancing to. Dancing is a good measure of someones physical health (good dancers will be fit and healthy) and so part of the many indicators that make up physical attraction.

Our brains seem to respond particularly well to the musical scales we use, probably due to their mathematical simplicity - our brains are just computers so its not very surprising they respond to strong patterns well.

That's just plain ridiculous.

Are you sure up isn't *REALLY* down, and black isn't *REALLY* white.

I have a private plate :p

I also have 2 questions.

Surely there is not enough chickens in the world to feed everyone that buys them. I mean obvously there is but surely they are fromsome sort of chicken planet? just think about how many chickens all of the supermarkets/butchers/restaurants use. Think about all of the eggs.. it just blows me away.

When did they run all of the cables underground to connect everywhere together. It really fucks with my head.

Finally why can't I make scrambled eggs without using a box of 6 :(

Not at all depressed it just makes me wonder who is really happy.

Maybe it really is that ignorance is bliss.

Pfy - why is black called black and white called white?

But who first discovered this, how long ago was it done?

Are the lab made vitamins exactly the same as those in foods? So say I have a multi-vitamin that provides 100% of my RDA is it actually just the same as eating the foods that the vitamins live in?

I take multi vitamins.

I do as well but mainly because I am a crap eater.

I do not know the answer to your questions but I am still amazed by the sewer systems that were installed ages ago, that still blows my mind never mind all the cabling we have now.

Ive always wondered what other colours are yet to be "found" and how it is that they will come to be found... Will Outerspace hold the answer or just another question?

I can only assume "music" started probably back with the Cavemen, no doubt bashing a few rocks together made some audible noise. And because the Cavemen were bouncy, thats where the dancing started...

There are no colours to be found. There are colours we can't see, but physics still tells us what they are.

No one knows how music first started, but best guesses are that it evolved in conjunction with the development of language. Something about organisation of tones.

1. vitamins are extracted from fruits and meats by rejected stuffed toys that failed to make retail grade. they're animated by foul necromantic arts, and spend their stolen lives in dark places, squeezing, squeezing, squeezing at their little desks, the noxious darkeness around them illuminated only by the evil glowing of their little button eyes.

2. these people are happy because they do not know about 1.

3. some bugger tried to vandalise my mums car by breaking off the side edges of her plates. why ffs? it's a bloody kia piccanto!

4. clearly toyota design speaks to you on a low level. do you also have a mark on the other side of the scale? are there cars that make you want to break out in song?

5. elves started it. bloody elves. in an aside, I wonder at musical things too, for example, who every came up with throat singing? or a bull-roarer? people are fond of finding strange vehicles to express themselves I tells ya.

(btw I just wrote "vehicles" incorrectly and the spell-checker turned it into "testicles" :p)

That just gives me mental images of cavemen pushing each other off cliffs and grading their bounciness whilst listening to a kicking choon.

I remember someone saying something like that at the boozydo cal, I've actually got the data infront of me now because I'm at work;

In 1993 there were approximatly 30,700,000,000 chickens and 580,000,000 turkeys used for the purposes of feeding. The projected totals for 2007 at were 46,000,000,000 chickens and 700,000,000 turkeys. These figures do not include birds that were used for the purposes of breeding - which are a completely seperate system.

If you think theres 5 billion people, and 46 billion chickens per year. Not sure how much we actually need, but when you think that the chickens that actually feed us have to be fed as well, it all kinda gets a bit huge and the amounts of food involved are kinda crazy :)

9 chickens per person per year. Yeah, I'd buy that. If anything I thought that number was a bit low; India's the only country I can think of where they don't eat a lot of chicken, and I reckon the typical westerner eats way more than 9 chickens a year.

Yeah and then consider the few hundred million chinese peasants who live on rice and half a chicken a year each, if that. In fact, the chinese are being encouraged to farm pigs instead as they are more efficient use of land than chickens.

Speaking from my own POV as mentally disabled, we often feel happier about ourselves than so-called "normal" people because you generally have to accept your condition, issue or deformity and also accept that it could be worse. The same disabled people also have the usual balancing system - another sense makes up for the loss of one for instance.

Cant comment on the rest though :)

I was suprised when I first saw the figures, my first impression was actually that they were way too high, but then after thinking about it for a moment it seemed about right - if you think about it, although consumption in the uk and possibly the rest of europe is very high, the consumption in asia and africa is liable to be comparitively very low.

The numbers involved though are quite amazing, especially when you think how it all has to be organised and regulated as closely as it is.

They eat shitloads of chicken in China and Southeast Asia, especially China, and in South America and the Caribbean as well. Don't know about Africa as much although Nando's is South African!
