You may think that the topic is a contradiction in terms, but not when it comes to a certain paladin and the way he uses his shield.

Tonight we tumble into 1.5FG mids in emain with our 1FG. I smack a mezz in there, some resist, some purge.

A skald/warrior/something with a big motherfucking sword runs at me and I start praying cuz this is the part where i normally die. Just before he reaches me, this tank slams the norseman and I open my eyes ... think for about 0.00001 sec and nuke him into small bits.

While im nuking I see this dwarf starting to run up to me - 'ohno im dead'...
When he reaches me, he turns into this giant squirrel and start whacking at me with some nasty meatcleavers - once ... then he stops cuz the same pala just slammed him. 1-2-3 nukes, smithereens.

One more norse - same story. Then the mids were out of tanks - and I nuked 2 runemasters into bits.

Can anyone guess the name of the tank?

(No, I wasnt the only one hammering those ppl, did not take 5 of 14-15 down myself, but that isnt the point).

thats the job of a shield tank
to slam people
works pretty good with my scout too =)
i slam
a caster or polearms
finish the job

nice, but if 2 runemasters are still standing in the time it takes you to kill 3 tanks, there's something else wrong

Im sure u would have done way better than that Wildfire, but is not the point now is it?

I was not the only one doing damage to those tanks. The casttime with buffs hit some 2.1-2.3 sec, I do 400-odd on average to ppl with average resists and no buffs.

So taking down 3 tanks that dont IP (funny enuf none of them did) or other shit dont take long.
27 mezz time was plenty.

im amazed that you are surprised by this? i've been doing it on casters/bards ever since i had slam /em giggles at sub

Yes I am quite surprised, keep in mind I have only done active rvr as clothcaster for 2 weeks.

But tincans seem to like charging wildly into the fray all the time and giving sod all about the casters. (I dont blame those that do that, I would do it myself).

well I try to slam tanks as mutch as poss works on casters to tough, prevents em from QC :) then I pull out pole and one hit em, MUAHAHAHA :p

lol wtf? what kinda bunch of moron fuckwit tanks you got over there in albion? EVERY shield tank who doesnt do that in our groups gets a proper beating with a big stick and kick in the nuts. oh and my guess is aikmore :p

oh well, i think almost every decent tank on hib does that.. since everyhibtank but gimped ones or bms (which is not the same... tho) get sum kind of stun.

Some tanks protect realm casters, other tanks kill enemy casters. some run around and break mezz on enemy tanks, but those are the noobs who are best ignored.

depends on the situation but many a time i have saved a casters arse with guard and intercept and slammin the inc :)

Stick random caster or other week and important group class, watch his ass til your group (hopefully) manage to control the situation. When things are under control find a target with low Hp, slam him and finish him of then zerg the mezzed leftovers, usually a healer or two and some tank types.

RvR tactics isn't more complicated than that imo.

I for one can understand your surprise Ody, in all the time I've spent in RvR(which is getting less and less) this has not happened to me once. :D But hey, running in circles until I run out of endurance with 3 or 4 tanks on me must help the group in some other way than me killing them I suppose :cool:

I too am tired of running in circles and trying to figure out what the heck to do after the qc is spent.

I dont like running
I dont like thinking
I nuke stuff.

Well done, Lukas! My guess would have been Aikmore, too, though, as he is one bad shield-wielding tank. :) Last time I grouped with him, he was guarding our theurgist when we ran into an uber stealth squad at AMG. Result was that the theurgist died instantly, of course, and I was amazed to see Aik changing /guard to me in mid-combat without missing a beat. :D

Krane, you should be careful with that stun when grouped with shield tanks, it's duration is ridiculously short with determination and high body resists, whereas I believe melee stun are not affected by those? (Of course, in the heat of combat there's no time to call in a tank in a pinch.)

I hope determination works on the shield slams... don't think they've got a resist type though - can test with /duel soon :)
