A cracking one we have here now - guess the whole UK should have one sometime today.

I remember as a kid my Nan used to say it was God moving his furniture around when it thundered - bless :p

Anyone else get told any funny stuff about storms?

My father in law goes a little nuts during storms and unplugs everything in the house like he expects it to explode!

Oh and I remember as a kid I always wanted to get struck by lightning as I was convinced at that time it would give me super powers :)

I used to get told that God was having a disagreement with someone.....I always preferred to believe that when it rained he was having a wee and when it thundered he was farting, therefore when it lightinged he was lighting his farts....I thought it was funnier and much ruder!

Well what we call a storm is probably nothing compared to what the folks in New Orleans are preparing themselves for yet again.

Not so good for me, window leaking. Fortunately the rain stopped hammering it down and I was there to notice it at the time.

New Orleans
Heh

Nothing will happen.

Its just yer standard old mass panic after they fucked up so badly the last time.

Prepare for the self-congratulatory comments from every random US politician afterwards, when their personal efforts were the reason thousands didnt die.

Better hope so eh?

CAT 4 Hurricane could put Orleans under water for a long time.

I love thunderstorms, the bigger the better!

I remember when I was younger, when the power used to go out in storms quite regularly, and we'd just sit and watch the storms or play boardgames or just sit and chat instead of watching TV.

I have a strange memory of my little brother shouting crazily at storms, wanting more and louder thunder etc, vaguely reminicient of lieutenant dan from forest gump :D but obviously long before that ever came out.

I guess its just my imagination but we dont seem to have had any 'decent' storms lately, they've all seemed pretty tame when compared to the ones when I was younger, I remember being sure the massive oak tree at the back of our house was coming down from the sounds of some of the claps of thunder we heard.

As I say I suppose its just because I was younger then and they seemed alot louder - now that I'm older and have heard things to rival that sort of noise I guess it just doesnt seem as loud anymore.
