I fucking hate cricket, and guess where I'm going to be all through December? Just means all the hotel rooms have been booked up by the twatting "Barmy Army". Why are they "Barmy" anyway? For liking cricket?

Yeah, god forbid the BBC spending our money on something we actually want to watch.

We don't know what cricket is in Scotland. When I moved to Brum I was assaulted by numbers and talk of hitting Ewoks with a red ball.

It's a ghastly nightmare!

Well the cricket so far has been hideous from Englands point of view...
Australia have scored a massive 346/3 and Ricky Ponting has scored a century!

Its just dire really especially when you read this from the Guardian web site:

That first ball can set the tone of the series. We still remember the first delivery from Phil DeFreitas 12 years ago. It was short, wide, not very fast and crunched with such awesome authority by Michael Slater that any realistic hopes of England recovering the Ashes seemed to have vanished in the time it took the ball to skim to the cover boundary.

Well, Steve Harmison did not fall into the DeFreitas trap at the Gabba when propelling his first delivery to Justin Langer. There was no way Langer was going to hit that ball for four. Why? Because it was the widest wide I've seen in Test cricket this century. The ball sped into the hands of a startled Flintoff at second slip.

On another day the England captain might have grinned broadly and indulged in some playful banter with his mate but everyone had been waiting for this delivery for 15 months. It was a tad disappointing that it failed to hit the cut strip. Nor did it set the right tone.

England cannot win this 1st test match, not with Australias score like that. I doubt they will even draw.

Its not a good start!

you're a bellend.

dys - don't forget the aussies won the first test in '05. all is not lost! we just need to hope the wicket starts to do something today and we don't end up having to chase a ridiculous score.

Or you could just pray for rain like every twatting englishman did last year.

A true sportsmans approach to competitive games.

That made me smile. To be honest I was expecting some sort of abuse towards jocks. :)

Why? Because I think 22 blokes standing around all day (9 of them having a beer) with the occasional flurry of motion is FUCKING DULL. As an excuse to get pissed all day I'm sure its amazing, but otherwise, fucking tedious wank. Even we won the fucking thing it was just another excuse to see bleary-eyed Yorkshiremen. I got enough of that growing up. Explain one single thing about cricket that's actually not tedious.

Is that the best you could do? No defence just a personal attack? Says it all really. And yes Golf is also tedious and shares the special place in my heart for wank sports that are like watching paint dry. Although at least I can understand why people might play golf even if I can't understand why people watch it. With cricket even playing it is fucking boring.

calm down, i was only taking the piss.

personally i find cricket enthralling, i used to hate it with a passion but i got hooked watching the tour of south africa in late '03 but i can't really explain what got me hooked.

never played much golf but i find it dull as fuck. played cricket when i were young and loved it, i was a decent bowler until i got fat and lazy.
