is being seriously harmed by utter fucking morons ripping westminster and oxford street up. Once again, peaceful protest ruined by small numbers of organised criminals.

Just another bunch of morons who seem to slowly be loosing more and more support each time this sort of thing happens, even worse is watching some of the moronic things they say when interviewed on the street.

Tripling the cost of college. I wonder what would happen if they'd tripled the price of beer 3 fold.

Those found to be guilty of criminal damage or assault should be removed from their courses. Simple.

the bbc roaming reporters seemed to be implying it was mainly college students rather than uni students being dicks. obviously no excuse for it though.

Surely they realise this behaviour wouldnt help their case... if I was an MP that going to vote i would be going

"right, so those outside are the so called students... and they protest by breaking multiple laws.

If we put this increased fees through it may prevent there being so many noob students... lets vote to quadruple it instead of triple"

Radio interviews where great, they interviewd groups of 14-17 years olds that didn't even have a clue why they were protesting.

As pointed out, a lot of people there who shouldn't have been, in addition to a lot of students that were just there to take the piss.

Great way to lose sympathy for your cause, well played, well played.

Ya well done twats, don't ruin what was a good and well intentioned protest.

I tell you all this fees stuff, bad news if you have middle class parents who earn too much for you to get funding and don't fancy paying 9k a year. Afaik you need to have lived away from home for three years or be over 21(or it 23?) to be considered an "independent student".

Its 9k a year which will be paid back in tiny amounts when people are earning huge wages and at an extremely competitive interest rate. People on useless time killing courses will probably not ever earn enough to have to start paying it back anyway...

Idiot middle class kids who don't know how lucky they are to be able to go to uni in the first place.

media/ government couldn't of planned this any better. Instead of the headlines reading 9k etc, it's all about the rioting, and the royal car being trashed.

you need to be 26 afaik. I tried to be an independent student when i applied at 21, and had moved out ages ago etc, and they told me no.

Does it fuck. Swift punishment needs to be handed out.

This isn't all of them ofc, just the minority that were there to cause trouble. Some of the pictures disgust me, for example that policeman that they pulled from his horse who could have quite easily been killed. The scum that vandalised monuments, which if it wasn't for those they were dedicated to, these fuckers wouldn't be able to protest at all.

I think they should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, maximum fines and all that and given a nice big criminal record, they can then be removed from their course by the universities. Lets see just how hard done by these spoilt brats feel then.

Well, in general, I'd say the biggest problem with the English when it comes to this sort of thing is that you just ain't French enough.
You'll grumble and nod your head at a headline in a tabloid about the bloody government etc, but in general you'll do fuck all about it, no offense.

Take a leaf out of the students' book, be a bit more French, kick of a fucking riot when your governmrnt piss you off.

Yeah and then suck it up, cuz no matter how many cars you set on fire that Sarko just smiles and carries on with the reforms.

There are ways to protest.

No one minds lawful peaceful protest

But the scumbags who desecrate war memorials, smash up shops, vandalise public & government buildings, attack royal cars, attack horses & drag police off them deserves to be punished to the full extent of the law. They're a bunch of chickenshits - they cover their faces so they can't be identified, and when they're arrested, they're the first people to QQ about their human rights.

The only way to deal with scum like that is go in heavy handed. They need to know who's in charge - and its not them. Give the police their own authority on how to respond & lets bring order back. Its deeply unfortunate that we have school kids in amongst that lot - but, if you're gonna be part of a violent rampaging mob, you have to accept you could get hurt. 14 year olds know this. They're quite savvy these days. They know the difference between right and wrong. If you want to protest peacefully, stay well away from the trouble-makers. If they hang out with the yobs just to get a decent youtube vid, I have no sympathy for them.

No one pays attention to it either.

Charles and his doxy get paint thrown on their bulletproof car and the CI of the MET promises a full enquiry and those responsible brought to justice, a guy with his hands in his pockets gets attacked on camera by a cop and dies and we get............

I agree regarding the people who do the above, especially regarding the War Memorial desecrations and messing with the flags. Mandatory public service tbh.

however...
Give the police their own authority on how to respond & lets bring order back.
did you really just type that? you DO realize what this means, don't you?

As someone that works closely with the police I can tell you they already have an unprecedented amount of power, which they rarely choose to use. Giving them more is frankly unnecessary.

I mainly work with CID and Major Incident teams, who are the guys that deal with murder, sexual assault and things of that nature and I can tell you that those guys are for the most part exceptionally professional and very well trained. They see their job as just that – a job, they come in they do what they need to, often work long hours which they do without any bias or in most cases any agenda and then they leave and go home happy with a days work. That is especially true of the Major Incident teams – I can’t speak highly enough of them.

I dread working with young uniformed police officers. I don’t have to very often, but when I do for the most part they are rude, full of attitude, incredibly arrogant and often don’t know the law very well at all. They aren’t all like that, but a significant percentage are on a bit of a power trip. These are the people who are on the front line in incidents like this and they are often very easily provoked.

People talk a lot of crap about the police. The truth is it is a very tough job and it does require a mixture of personality types in order to make it work, but unfortunately the police themselves often aren’t very good and spotting people who perhaps aren’t suited to frontline policing.

Incidentally, if you think the Student Loan legislation was a bit much - you should see the proposed changes to dsiability benefits - they are truely scandalous.
