The "Please" word

After some nerdy years in front of this screen, ive grown to have certain oppinions about how ppl actually say things.

For example, leaving more than 1 "!" exclamation mark will just make me look the other way, since nobody reall will read it anyways cause its probably written by someone aged 10 years or below. The same goes for "?" question marks. Theres plenty of good examples here really,

selling very cheap stuff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(so obviously this guy is selling some very cheap stuff, but since most of his sentence was covered in exclamation marks, im very much hoping hes selling some earplugs

Same goes with capital letters, who could ever think that you would get a message forth by writing in capitals. If someone resposible for somert wanna stand out "in the crowd/spam" then absolutely. But when your having a normal situation, i mean, if my counterpart would do that, id just get embarassed "go awaaaay, i dont kow u.. schuuu, away".

Then theres one more thing before we really can start to talk baout the Please word.
Abbreviations is used pretty much in MMORPGs and in general on the internet, but who wouldnt use em, i mean if i never wouldve used them id prolly be writing stuff from 1995 still Good stuff, cept in certain situations.
Say youre for exmaple, talking with a GM on Phys1ks server Youd prolly want to be as clear as possible so they dont missunderstand your problem here. But we do have the over abusing abbrevation users here, who proll thinks a gm knows everything and everybody. "PLZ GM HLP TOI GC PK %#%&/("!", id just go like "wtf?". Or actually id prolly just slap him in his face n tel him to talk english

Now the please word... please is a common word when you talk to ppl irl. Its friendly and polite to say please. "Can pass the salt please?" "yes please" etc etc...
Then if its so very polite, why not use it all the time? Well... Asking your family for the salt, and saying "Buffs please", i mean, who do this guy think he is coming up, sending me a PM with "buffs please". If hed say ie "Could you please buff me <name>?" then id definately buff him.
See the difference in abbrevations and the use of please? Just wait theres more.

Say i wanna get help from someone, id prolly go "ANyone know about .... ?"
Then we have the please word abusers, "PLIZ HLP ME PLZ STUCK NEEEEEEEEEEEeeeEED HEELLPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?"
Is there even need for an explanation here?

Lets go back to the buffing question, "buffs please". Say ur living in an native english talking country, then itd prolly be ok to say this. But ur asking for a favor so u might wanna be polite, right. Then we have the guys NOT living in a native english talking country "buff me please" mkey, since english aint ur native language u might wanna be as clear and polite as you can eh? This aint it

Seriously thought I know what your saying, some poeple do have a bit of a cheek when they ask for stuff, very rarely do they actually ask properly, its just "<what they want> <some form of the word 'please'>" like your example 'Buffs please'. Its not asking properly, and so it comes across as rude.

I suppose situations should factor into this though, as if your in RvR and need end, and the grp pally isnt playing it, you cant exactly say "Paladin please may I have some end?", so "end please" or more usually "END!!1" has to suffice.

In non-combat situations though I can see why that might get annoying

so you are saying that, the word please annoys the shit outa you unless its used on some politically perfect expression.. well, u must have been smoking some serious stuff, because on a gaming comunity it IS comon and logical that ppl uses abreviations.. 'proper' requests or expressions WILL BE rare. There is 2 most standard scenarios:
a) ppl adressing others with the use of words such as 'pls' and smileys such as '' = friendly/polite behaviour
b) ppl adressing others with blunty requests/orders = annoying/rude behaviour

That above may sound bit stupid at first, but if u take 10seconds to think about it, u will realize that on a internet comunity those abreviations and smileys are extensions to the language, which allow you to 'talk' faster or to somehow show emotions that usually would come in body-language shape..

So taking over your example the choice would be something betwen:
a)'i need buffs / givf buffs / bufffffffssss'
b)' i need buffs pls / giiiiiiiiiiv buffs please / buffffssss '
Now you tell me which one would discomfort you (the most) .. ill rather take b.

Regarding the massive use of '!' or even '!1!11!' or sometimes caps, is only a way to add emphasis to ur writing. And once again, the 'politically correct' sentences are just not an option.. for instance.. if am rvring for 4 hours and every time someone gets mezzed he says 'oh no, i have been mezzmerized, could you please cure me as soon as possible <bard name>?' instead of the standard 'FUCK MEZZZED' ill suggest him a reality check.

To me, personally, there are a few situations where those abbreviations are useful - when there's someone sticking pointy things in you, yelling for a heal, with or without plz is fine.

In normal social interaction abbreviations are not necessary. You can damn well type 'please' if you have the time to do so (and make a proper sentence to go along with the please) - to not do so is lazy. If you can't be arsed to take your time typing proper English, I can't be arsed to reply or provide you with what you want (if I would feel so inclined).

That doesn't mean I don't understand what you're saying, but I won't actively help you in destroying a perfectly functional language, just because you can't be bothered to type out what you want. (The only reason those abbreviations were introduced in the first place was to save time during fights - And not in MMORPGS at that.)

Consider it pedagogic sound interaction. It will help you in later life by being able to type coherent sentences and be understood by other human beings. (Because, quite frankly, the English many people type is very bad. They might actually learn a few new things if confronted with the right way to write words. You don't earn the right to slaughter a language until you can speak or write is correctly.)

On that note, people asking for heals in a group piss me off enormously. It's not as if I tell tanks to hit things and casters to nuke, why would they feel the need to tell me to heal? I trust you to do your job, and so please trust me to do yours. It seems to be a pretty universal thing, and I'm glad I'm not routinely in groups where this happens.

Maybe this hails back from the time of smite clerics where you had to yank them out of their killing spree on occasion with a timid heal request... <looks at Flimgoblin>

That normally works, but if you begging in the first place should you be aloud buffs? I only normally buff people whom I know.. unless I get bribed!

The general "buffs plz" will not get buffs I guess, though... "Please sir, could I have some buffs?" sounds just the same to me.

To me, "buffs please", sounds like the person expects me to buff them and anything else would be an outrage. It sounds like a command, not an asking of a favour. As such it would look ok to me if asked within a group, but not otherwise.

If they instead would say "may i have some buffs?" even without the please and even if from someone outside my group, i would look more kindly towards that request, as it doesn't assume anything.
