I have one and have the 3g model on order too. It is very good. Ignore the uninitiated mac haters here, most of them have never used a mac and have just jumped on the we hate steve jobs band wagon. Sad really ;) I will admit it could do with some better connectivity though.

The thing that makes me laugh is a friend works for NHS IT and they ordered 400 of these from America. It was because Doctors found using the Citrix app version of the product easier than the full feature version on Windows based tablets :) So more money less features sounds just like the NHS :)

Its basically an idiot tax. Its a giant Iphone that does half the things a netbook that costs half does.

So right, just watched the advert and they just showed people clicking around app stores and mooching around a multipage search engine.
But they made it look so sexy, I felt like buying one, only to be dissapointed
of course.

ASUS has given us a $399 to $499 price range for the Eee Pads, but don't start salivating just yet. We were also told that the Eee Pad won't be out until the first quarter of 2011.

Flash, Multitask, full windows 7 OS , USB ports , HDMI port 1080p playpack full size keyboard, 10 hours battery life ,3G optional, Nvidia Tegra 2 GPU

The problem is you just have to w8 untill Q1 in 2011 :p

Why would you want flash? It's completely outdated. HTML5 > Flash.

Because a lot of websites still use flash. Not being able to use half the websites = pointless web browser.

Hp tablets and others all coming this year. Apple got the march on them with a vastly inferior, and underspecced machine with a massive mark up. Well done to their marketing team yet again. But you have to be an Apple addict to want one and defend it's usefulness.

Why do you need flash? Ipad plays youtube video's full screen using a dedicated app and same with iplayer and other video on demand. I don't miss flash one bit when using my ipad and I have to say the version of safai that Ipad uses is optimized for it, it is the fastest browser I have used. When I am at home my ipad is now my main browsing machine, it is far faster and more convenient to use than my netbook and laptop and does pretty much everything I want. The onscreen keyboard is exceptionally good too, I would be suprised if HP or Asus come up with an interface which is as smooth, and no, I am not an apple addict, I use windows machines just as much. Comparing spec incidentally doesn't make a lot of senese given that it is not running windows.

It's true that Apples products are good in what they do, but for others that just the annoyance. It's good at what its made for, but if you want something else, you are not able to or bound by Apple's products and software.
Flash is not dead at all and there are some rather nice flash sites out there. A lot of games sites and pay sites use flash. To mask the limitations of the Apple products by saying; "who needs flash anyways, it's shite" is having a narrow "Apple" mind. It's out there, yes it has it's flaws, but so does everything else.

This goes for a lot of things concerning Apple, not just flash btw (iTunes?). If you're fine with the way Apple leads you foreward, by all means use it. Others might just want a bit more "freedom" and more spec's without paying the "Apple" prize.

One of the major flaws of the Ipad are the spec's (basically its an iPhone with 2 battery's).

Never been a fan of Apple products, I remember when my mate got his iMac when it first came out and it was something £1500 because it was a display model, but I couldn't see the appeal. No Apple product has ever taken my interest, you can always find products that have more features look better and at half the price Apple charge, though I do like their marketing department, they really know how to sell this stuff. I tried using an iPhone and found it very annoying to use felt very backwards and I have a Nokia 5800 which is even worse. I just can't understand the appeal of the iPad at all, don't see a use for it, especially as it doesn't have any USB ports????? People tell me about the games and I haven't seen a touch screen game done well outside of bejewelled. The controls are always counter intuitive.

Sorry for the rant

Hulu are working on a dedicated app for ipad rather than a html 5 portal, which is the way most video on demand has gone with ipad and so far these apps work just fine.

I still think the ipad is Style over Substance so i would never get one. I would now buy an iphone after3 months with my i touch but the ipad is one step to far the lenovo netbook tablet is so much better bang for buck.

The ipad isn't too bad a product, but I don't know how anyone can justify paying the prices Apple are asking for.

It kinda goes against the "products for everyone" style that apple has had.

Everyone can own an apple, everyone can easily use it etc etc, then stick a price on ti that removes a lot of people from buying it.

I think the problem here is that people are looking at the ipad as a laptop / netbook replacement, which it isn't. A windows 7 tablet would be a touchscreen PC, which is something different again, the ipad is a unique device, it isn't a mac and it isn't an iphone, it is something new and that is why it is priced on the high side. I said earlier in this thread that it could do with better connectivity, and I am sure later models will have extra USB and firewire ports, but it isn't really meant to plug in to any perhipherals, it's supposed to do everything wirelessly, thats the point of it.

The spec is irrelevent, comparing it to a netbook or laptop is pointless, it isn't running windows or even a full blown mac osx and its OS is optimized for the device, it does everything very fast. I will admit if there is one feature lacking, it is multitasking, but that is supposedly addressed in a future firmware update anyway.

Having owned one for a while now, all I can say is that it is a joy to use and incredibly intuitive, and in my view worth every penny, apple or not.

Ford, what does it accomplish that your other tech can't?

That's the big point which manufacturers often don't address.

Honest question btw, no insinuation or such.

That's been my question. It may be a revolution but its a revolution solving a problem i did not know existed. What is its point what role does it solve ect.
