... is an application called EarthViewer 3D. You can download a 30-day trial version from nVidia and have a look at their website.
It displays a 3D globe and allows you to specify any location in the world and zoom in, using detailed satellite photographs. Most impressive. It moves you around in a very graceful and smooth way.
The detailed information is called from their servers which are under heavy load and takes a little longer to respond than they should. They also seem to have more detail available on major cities and places of interest than in other locations. For example, I could pick out a route across London, but I can barely pick out my home town. Worth a look, anyway.
