Apparently, they did an experiment with a wall that had been plagued with graffitti. They played very quiet classical music, from a hidden speaker. This stopped the graffitti completely, since they thought they were being watched by a hidden camera.

The worst thing about these incidents is not beng able to catch the cretins.
Last summer we had a problem with some kids on bikes, who would ride down the road stoning cars, leaving dents or smashed windows.

In all of 20 seconds I would hear them coming, stone mine or my neighbours cars and speed away. The only way I could realistically stop them was with a rifle, from my window. Staking them out wasn't an option as it could be a few weeks before they came back. I know the system here would do fuck all if they caught them, because they're under 16 and their single-parent/guardian is probably on benefits. Bastards are too young to be punished, but can stay out till 3am. It should be the other way round!

Screw the law, just put the light up. Some will get triggered a good 50 yards from where they are fitted. Someone will have to get environmental health involved if they are concerned about the light pollution, and they'll just ask you to turn it off. Unless you live in a conservation area, when it might become a planning issue instead.

You could get an infrared floodlight of some sort mounted then mount a webcam somewhere - granted it's not prevention but you might catch them in the act. You can also set up webcams to start recording when they sense motion. Might be worth investigating.
