Right, I've got about three days to write a short story to be published in this online book, and I CANT THINK OF A PLOT. At all.

So, my little gerbils of mental inspiration and hamsters of disturbing plot, what elements do you think make a good short story?

Throw some plot ideas at me! Help!

could do a global wipeout but you've done one of them.

People acting weird (although hard in a short story as you have to build up character for it to be noticeable that it's changed)

hrm

ok, the only plot elements I can think of are doughnuts and norse mythology, preferably in a contemporary setting (although you might get slated for being a bit too douglas adamslike... maybe go for egyptian mythology and doughnuts?)

Pace, stereo-typical characters and a twist at the end.

The Coin ...

A story about a coin and it's travels as it gets passed from person to person.

What was it buying, did it get stolen and where did it finish ?

Maybe it ends up rolling into a drain ... you decide ...

Coin story would be nice, if it involved the death of a salesman and a fly over the cuckoo nest...

coinstory is a v nice idea tbh.

Could mebbe be some old ancient one of extreme value aswell that passes in the hands of thiefs and collectors and in the end saves some poor soul from the miserable life he lives? Or is that maybe too silleh? ^^ Lucky I aint a writer, I would be really poor then :)

When I did English A level I did a short story about a woman who finds a letter for her boyfriend, and it was just about emotions she goes through really when she reads it and it's a love letter. When she confronts him he admits to being gay then she turns into some ewul bitching beast-like thing. Then over-night she decides she does want to be with him, but the next morning he walks out... sounds a bit crap but if you want to show off skills in describing emotions, situations and maybe stream of consciousness type things if you write in first person it can work quite well.

Write a story about a witch who can't stop telling lies and who lives in a cupboard.

You could call it the lieing witch in the wardrobe.

Write a short story based on a trial. The lawers, judge and jury should be based on the main posters on BW. :)

Write a story where we have wiped ourselves and most of the world's species out, by destroying most of the world; because of some mysterious reason. We have to fight to keep what we have left and to build a new world etc.
Oh, give one of the characters my name and put me in the "Thanks to:" part please, I have always wanted to be famous.

You get frozen with 5 other people, all survival specialists and are melted out by the auto-timer on the freezing chamber 500 years later. There is an air-tight hatch at the top of the underground laboratory you were frozen in, it leads to the surface. You begin to open it, the suspense is heart-pounding, sweat drips from your palms... What will be out there? A post-apocolyptic wasteland? Civilised life with technology you could only imagine? Or will the world have sunken back into a state of pre-historical stone age?
The hatch slides open, you squint your eyes as the dust and sunlight falls onto your face...

Let us not forget this is supposed to be a 'short' story :) not a novel.

Yes, yes they are all BS suggestions. The only good one so far is the coin idea. Reminds me of a Steven King short story I think...involving a cat. Lord knows why. Must be the Baileys messing with my neurons again. Bad baileys, BAD!

No and stop calling my ideas BS it's disrespectful as that's probably the best I can do at 11:30 at night :(

If you noticed I didn't call your idea BS. I liked your idea about the coin.
