a very simplistic example.. not really taking nto account everything are you.. jsut because downtime is higher does not mean xp is necessarily higher lower or equal.. a more indepth example would be..

(ps in this example I will just use a group of s/s armsman and cleric vs merc + cleric since it'll be shorter and is effectively the same as 7 arms/pally+cleric, and the 7 mercs+cleric for 2hrs. )

first up:
s/s and cleric vs some orange con mob:
cleric is only healing not smiting we'll assume hehe.. s/s hits for 80 damage every 4 seconds maybe, mob has 1000 life (a bit much but anyways..) fight takes 50 seconds ( 1000/80 * 4 ).. downtime is 20 seconds cos cleric healed once maybe and end regen is needed.. total time : 70 seconds

merc + cleric vs same mob:
again cleric is only healing.. merc hits for 200 average damage every 4 seconds (including DW htis so hence, AVERAGE dmg), same mob as before so 1000 htis.. this fight takes 20 seconds, but downtime is higher cos cleric healed 3 times, downtime is 30 seconds (remember downtime for end was why was so high in above one, not power..). total time needed : 50 seconds


in this example downtime of merc combo is higher, but you'll be making xp far faster.. to say oh downtime is high, xp will suck is a very naive simplistic view, as it may or may not be the case, depending on numerous factors in some cases a merc will be faster overall, sometimes a s/s will be better..

personnally I would go for a merc who has a s/s guarding him ;)

No way will a group of say 4 pallys, 3 s/s armsman and a cleric EVER have longer downtime than 6 mercs and a cleric on the same mobs (over time). EVER EVER EVER. Ever...

get a merc to hold agro from aflanc/mordrid or Legion :)

btw my previous example was theoretical, perhaps that is why you did not take heed of it.. I havea "real life" example..

when I was lvl 42 (or maybe I was 43) a same lvl s/s champ was soloing black badgers near inis as was I to pass the time. On average I lost more life per mob, of course :p, *however* he took so much longer to kill one that I had killed one and rested and fully healed and was onto my next mob, whilst he was sitting to regen his last 10% life still.. so yes, my downtime was higher by a fair bit, but I was still killing faster overall :p

The point is a bit moot anyway, last time I grouped with Martok in Darkness Falls things got a bit hairy with lots of purple aggro. Rather than hold the mobs till the cleric could get away he disbanded and ran off!!

Give me a level one acolyte with balls over someone who runs off any day of the week. Hope that other merc's have a bit more courage than that.... :)

Willowywicca, I wasn't trying to start an argument. Its a hypothetical situation anyway, since a group like that is rare (and would suck anyway).
The point I was trying to make (and I have to explain it to dumbasses who group with lowb alts frequently) is that HIGH EXP and KILLING QUICKLY means nothing if you are sat on your collective asses for 5 mintues afterwards regenning power/end/hp. Its like watching all those l33t n00b theurgists soloing reds ('cos they can). They think their exp is uber, 'cos the bar moves like <-------> this much per kill. Then you snigger when they sit down for the next 5mins to regen power. Clearly better off chaining yellows.

For the record, it is the variety of classes, the different way those classes can spec, the different play styles that makes groups good. There is no formula. There is no prescribed 8 classes that guarantee good exp. Only way to get good exp is to get good players.

Yhe only time i have ever dispanded and run away from an WXP group was when i said i am leaving and heading for the exit!!

Again i will never run from a group as i need all the xp i can get and would rather die to allow a healer/pally chance to logg or get away from agro than run from a fight.

Although my pulling can be a bit mad/hetick i can still hold my own against mobs and Tanked the princess for an entire fight although its not a HL Prince or Legion she does Thrust damage and their for gets criticals against my amour yes the healer had to heal me but i am capped on all my stats except for strength

I don't care what people think but in my view teador was out best wizard at the time and most people just got the wrong side of him thats all.

this is about the fastest way you can get to level 40 as there is literally no downtime and is great fun
