For those who cba to read the story, Apple are talking about releasing a console.

Am I the only one that wishes this company would fuck off and go back to making shitty computers that noone wants?

I dont know why I hate them so much.. probably partly because of their association with the indies/emos of this world who worship the thin peice of crap that is Apple's excuse for an mp3 player. But also, unless im mistaken, back up 3-5 years and Apple were the most vocal group out there vs people like microsoft, whining and bitching that it was unfair for them to keep branching out into other trades and monopolising the industry.

Now theyre doing the exact same thing? Soon as someone releases an mp3 player that is better than the iPod, Apple run out and introduce the Ipod-nano-tv-teleporter to try and gobble up the market share again. Yeah ok, its good business practice. but for a company that just spent the last 5 years crying that they couldnt get into the market, it seems slightly hypocritical.

I'd still take a PC with Windows over anything Apple could churn out. Wow, its more secure than windows? what a selling point. Someone who cant keep a Windows PC free from spyware/adware/viruses shouldnt be allowed near electronic products anyway lest they decapitate themselves with the DvD drive tray.

and iPods "marketing genius" involves getting U2 (The iPod of bands) to do their adverts for them. (I hate them as well, dont even get me started).

i've had 3 ipods all bork after a year bang on. 2 The battery just stopped working

You could be a technology columnist, im not sure, but just dropping something repeatedly isnt how i'd go about testing a product...

I was refering mainly to the software which i watched my friend struggle with for an hour and a half. And just the general irritation of navigating the menus and its inability to recognise track names.

People dont "just buy a mac because its more secure than windows"
they buy them for a purpose because it is better than a windows machine in a niche market.
For everyday home use a windows machine is probably better for you (abliet very marginally nowdays), but for work such as media production (which i said before if you read what you quoted) a MAC is superior due to the fact (read this bit carefully) they are tailored for it, Apple has been in development with the publishing industry for years so as a result a MAC is better than windows for the field.
A mac has Color Matching via coloursync built into the OS, no other OS boasts this.. what you see on the screen is what you get out of the printer. The MAC supports post script and PDF out of the box (yes, thats right no liscences from adobe) so publishing departments involved in pre-press use macs.
It also has typography built in, again because of its links with the publishing industry, you guessed it, whtas why people in publishing use it.

iPod prices are super high but the marketing tactics means that people want an iPod however much it costs.

I'd rather spend £70 on a 20 GB MP3 Player that does exactly the same job, has more memory, is cheaper but doesn't have the beautiful apple logo! Oh noes!

guess im a little outdated , i havent used macs in donkeys
but afaik windows still havent fixed colour matching , they have proprietry software which tries to emulate it tho

i personally prefer PCs but then i work in an IT dept thats mainly PCs so i know the ins and outs of it all

Plus i love the right click, i know Mac have similar with a keyboard press but its not the same. My housemate is a mac genius and he has a laptop but i love my PCs more just feels like more freedom to do things like upgrades etc

how do 42 million ipods disagree with the fact that i dont like U2? I never disputed the fact that iPods have sold well? I'm AGREEING with you when you say that Apple marketed the iPod exceptionally well (theyd have to, to shift 42 million of the useless things). My main point was that Apple was being ridiculously hypocritical in their marketing ploys now that they finally have a product that sells well.

nikon its the same with all things, there is an option for your personal taste. I prefer PCs but not going to slate someone for preferring Macs. Thats like me gunning you for preferring Cheese sandwiches over Tuna

42 mil people disagree with you that the IPOD was marketed very well... which you seemed to dispute (at least thats how i read it)
the fact it is a inferior product to its rivals but is still outselling them shows how well the marketing and product placement was done.....

They were more secure were being the key word now people have started writing virus exploits for them they are not very secure at all. Im not a mac expert but i read life in the future is not so sweet for macs untill they get the mac adaware virus scanners ect up and running properly now they are in the hackers sights.

That was going to be another of my points, Macs were only secure because noone really cared about them. Apple started jumping around yelling about how secure they are and that pretty much made the hacker community decide to prove them wrong.

I use both for my media course at college. I cant stand macs. I can do everything that I could do on a mac on a windows pc. Maybe at one point, Mac was better at windows for media production stuff. But now, Windows has caught up and churn out pretty decent machines, macs and windows are more or elss on the same pegging now with regards to Media stuff

She's my age. and it wasn't a case of "I cant work out how you do this", it was "I'm trying what i usually do but the peice of shit software isnt letting me do it".

She fixed it in the end by deleting and re-installing itunes.

Was that befor of after she had to convert her whole music collection to itunes shitty format. I remeber my sister taking her ipod back when i laughed at her as i was copying wma's and mp3's to my iriver, and she was at 5% of 30gig of music converted

To be honest, I was using a mac laptop for a few weeks and at the end it wasn't that bad. Only annoying thing was the programs I couldn't run but if I wanted to use it for what it is designed for I would definatly get an apple over a pc.

As my my ipod nano? Still going strong after a year. does what I want..plays music.
