Don't think I've had 2 1/2 hours of my life wasted in 2012 so far.

So many plot holes. Also, there's a Japanese film with a very similar plot from about 20 years ago.

She claims she hasn't seen or read the book - I can't believe a word of it.

Fortunately the Japanese version isn't aimed at kids like this one is. It's briliant. (BTW I think the book was 1999 and the film 2000, so old, but not 20 years :D)

I liked the first two Hunger Games books and I'll probably see the movie.

It's not so much that it's a rip off that bothers me, it's more that she flat out denies and goes on the super defensive when anyone suggests any links.

She's just be better off saying the original was fantastic and her take is a more Westernised, youth-targetted version. Instead she denies that she's taken no influence from the concept at all, creating her own utter bullshit "idea" about flicking the TV between a game show and war footage... of course.

I read her quote where she said she hadn't seen battle royale. Part of me laughed and part of me cried.

I've not looked in to it at all but the trailer made me think of The Running Man more than Battle Royale.

wow, just got back.. What can i say apart from a complete bag of wank. The other 2 people on my row at the cinema walked out 1/2 way though, and if i had been on my self and not with other people and would of done the same. The plot was shit and was just totally boring and dragged on like fuck.

I went to see John Carter afew weeks ago and thought it was quite good compared to the reviews its got, and its a shame it will probably make a record loss according to the news. This deservers every loss it makes.

I can honestly say the trailer was far better than the actual movie

In a lot of ways I would have thought it would do better as an adaptation. The author (can't remember her name) is actually a very good action writer. My main problem with the books was that they were so internal (written in first person) and that the "emotional" and "meaningful" stuff in the books was poorly written.

The books were written for 12yr olds. What did you expect, incisive psychological analysis and introspection?

lol, not sure that has the weight of a gnat's fart.

The top 5 rated movies on IMDB have 75000 ratings of 1 between them and pretty much every film on there has a post in the forum section entitled "Worst Film Ever!" (possibly with more exclamation marks and piss poor spelling).

Not saying the film isn't bad (or good for that matter, I've not seen it), but I tend not to listen to the above mentioned people. :)

I really wanted to like this film, it's premise is right up my street.. I first read this thread and thought "Standard forum moan, all the critics have really rated it".. then I watched it.

Contrived. So so contrived. It makes sense now someone's said it was originally a childrens book ? I didn't know that. The ideas behind the whole Big Brother state and things are quite grown up and at times they get close to being really meaningful, but they're portrayed so averagely. It's like they rushed it or had to cut lots. Things like the Big Brother state didn't even seem that bad - they really didn't highlight how big a deal it all was :/

Then again, as someone said, some bits draaagged when they really shouldn't have. It's a shame because it has all the bits and pieces to make a really interesting movie.

AND FOR FUCKS SAKE HOW CAN THEY ALL BE SO NOISY AND STILL BE ALIVE ???????? Inconsistent things like that piss me off, because it's just lazy: the director could have made it fit, but decided the audience were too stupid to notice it doesn't make any fucking sense. AND HOW CAN YOUR DISTRICT BE STARVING WHEN YOU LIVE NEXT TO A FOREST?? Another: The "11" score, despite witnessing barely any skill whatsoever during "training" next to the insane skills on the others (which then evaporated into Lord of the Flies in the real thing). They really enjoyed parping on about her fucking bow.

And they can fuck right off with the Shakey Cam. NO ONE WANTS TO SEE FUCKING SHAKEY CAM.

That said, I really liked the ideas behind it all, they were just really badly portrayed 80% of the time.

Interesting choice of "errors":

Big Brother states don't have to look like Airstrip One. There's a pretty valid argument that you're living in a Big Brother state that "doesn't seem that bad" right now. Other "Big Brother" states that don't look bad would include Brave New World, if, you're fortunate enough to be born an Alpha.

AND HOW CAN YOUR DISTRICT BE STARVING WHEN YOU LIVE NEXT TO A FOREST??

Easily. The Pilgrim fathers nearly starved to death in their first year in America and they were surrounded by forest. If you don't know what to look for, a forest may as well be a desert. Why do you think one of the first thing primitive societies did was clear forest for crops?

Running Man has a special place in the Pantheon of Awful that also makes it wonderful.

Hunger Games I really don't fancy. Just looks like Battle Royale for Twilight mums & girly teens.

Simple reason why she won't admit it $$$$$$$! Stolen intellectual property = megabucks lawsuit if proved she did rip it off without any acknowledgement to the original. Would cost her millions.
