Just watched this and I'm left fucking angry that environmentalists (actually it's mainstream opinion now) are trying to force wind and solar power on Africans rather than use the coal or oil they have. What sick fucks.

Yes, because documentaries are highly accurate, especially when trying to prove a point.

But people ARE trying to pressurise Africa to develop using renewable resources. You can't deny it.

You also can't deny that solar power is fucking shit.

I did wonder about that. It seems like such an obviously stupid thing to expect developing African nations to use solar power and other expensive inefficient power sources that I wondered if it was more about polarising the viewer. The whole show seemed to be a bit "look how stupid these people are". It may have had lots of valid points but as a documentary I think it wasn't done very well.

I thought it was done quite well for the most part. The question is why are we letting Africans die in their thirties because some bad science says that letting them have decent cheap leccy might make the planet a bit warmer. Fuck that. If it was any of us we wouldn't stand for it.

What sort of sick fuck would continue to pollute the atmosphere on a massive scale (if Africa was chock full of coal-fired power stations we'd ALL be fucked) when he knows up-front that it's a globally disasterous idea?

The sad fact is - Africans are bearing the brunt of poverty, barbarism, war, exploitation and (soon) Global Warming (200 million of 'em are going to pop their clogs).

You can't make an omlette without breaking some eggs - and we've no chance of solving global warming with a tooled-up Africa that's whacking out greenhouse emissions...

Harsh? Yep. True tho.

BTW - if you're still not convinced by Global Warming then don't bother replying - I've run out of energy to argue with people who are too scared to face the *real* facts... :)

PROVE that global warming is caused by man-made CO2 emmissions and then go live in a mud-hut please.

Better still, swap lives with an African family. I'm sure there would be millions of them who would love to have your lifestyle and life-expectancy.

And to think not too long ago we were worried about global cooling.

I just posted this on an identical thread on another forum:

Personally I've always been sceptical about the human influence on global warming. I don't deny it's happening exactly, I just don't think a lot of people are looking at the bigger, climatological picture.

I also don't think many people realise just how mind-bogglingly huge the world is, mostly because we have maps of it and little globes in our offices and classrooms, and air travel and TV to show us all of it whenever we want.

I believe that the planet is very powerful and that humans are pityful in comparision; no matter how much shit they create and bombs they detonate, they're a long way from affecting Earth in the way a lot of people claim that they are.

Having said that, exhaust fumes, factory fumes, and carbon emissions are a disgusting filthy and primitive substance for us to have to live with on a more localised level. I would be very happy to see them go whatever excuse we come up with for getting rid of them.

I had a conversation with someone yesterday about the suspected plots by oil companies to keep us using fossil fuels. I postulated that there could be a counter-plot by the world's major governments to undermine the oil companies and convince us all to stop using oil, eventually, all together so we don't have to rely on the Middle Eastern nutjobs for our fuel supplies.

It's great this. Man-made global warming is now almost a religion, as people who are skeptical about it are called deniers (almost in the holocaust deniers context), complete with death threats and everything! Plus with all the stupid politicians using it as an excuse to tax us...

There's now a number of scientific papers that show warming on mars, saturn, and neptune's moon triton. Do people seriously think that man-made co2 is the cause of this? Obviously it has to be the only common thing, the sun!

Another thing is if you look at recent historic periods where the climate was warmer (medieval warm period) there was no major repercussions, with the possible exception that you could grow grapes up north.

It's ok guys, the world will be ok because we will be Taxed into crime and depravity the likes of which never seen before! Simply because anything we do is ruining the world through carbon emissions.. so clearly the only way to stop us is to Tax everything into oblivion.. yeah!

Or they could offer up good schemes/alternatives and educate people honestly without scare tactics and sensationalist claims.

I am far more scared about oil supply becoming unworkable than I am about the earth getting hotter.

Well if I was in charge of an African Nation and someone told me I could'nt develop because all the fat cat Westerners have ruined the planet with all their carbon emissions i would say "fuck you buddy!!"

And I would damn well go ahead and use up my coal and oil in the ground, develop polluting factories etc....just like they did in their past

But first I would develop a nuclear bomb to prevent you from engaging in a regime change...

And you could go right ahead and use your oil and coal, only you'd have nobody to trade your produce with, because the rich countries don't like Africa having it's own opinion.

Much of Africa's poverty could be dealt with easily by removing the common agricultural policy. But oh noooo, that would be bad for EU farmers, so we can't have that can we? Lets just send Bono out on some mission or other, that'll make everything right.

Another thread full of shit generalisations and 'theories' based on heresay and public ramblings. When did we start classing television programmes as 'fact'?

I don't take tv programmes as fact, my opinions on scientific issues are based on well researched scientific papers, with logical assumptions, that don't just leave things out because they don't fit the intended result (which most 'climate change' research seems to do with the sun). I dunno, maybe that's the physics graduate in me requiring rigorous scientific proof for any wild and disruptive changes people want to make in the world, particularly idiotic politicians!

Obviously it's man made CO2 doing. Man was also responsible for the average temperature on Venus being about 500 deg C.

Basically, the world's getting hotter cos the thing which provides us with heat, the Sun, is also getting fractionally warmer. This tends to happen in any star's life cycle. Not really that hard to figure out to be honest.
