YouTube - 1-18-08 teaser 2 (the end of the world)
[youtubevid]7aj-_l8J0vs[/youtubevid]

Do you think this will be a good film or not?

This could be another film like 'The day after tomorrow'.

Why is everyone so doomsday 24/7?

Just stop China & India producing all these coal fired power stations.

China build 3 a week.
they are the highest polluters in the world, switch to nuclear!

Anyway, film.

Looks bad :D

Nuclear is cleaner though, no co2 emissions, just a little bit of waste at the end of the year ;d

Nuclear is by far the cleanest and most efficient fuel for electricity generation. Even Greenpeace accept that.

The problem with China is not so much that they burn coal, it is that they do not treat the coal to become smokeless. Spent some time in Guangzhou a few years back and during the winter you could not the buildings on the other side of the street the smog was that bad. Like London in the 18th and early 19th centuary.

Actually 75% of all pollution comes from housing, so stop living you a-holes!

Which puts more radiation into the atmosphere?
Coal or Nuclear power stations?

You've probably guessed that's it's coal, that's because burning coal releases a lot of radiation from the rock and it all goes up the chimney.

It's not a worry, just brings home how our perceptions are usually way off the risk.

If a single nuclear power station in the world released for one day as much as a coal fired one does all the time, it would be shut down and the 'cloud' would be followed, people would be advised to stay indoors and there would be bans on everything and wild 'cancer deaths' guesses made by every green group.
The risks are infinitessimally small, moving to Cornwall is a far-far higher risk than walking around in a post Chernobyl local town.

It got brought home to me when a friend who worked for BFNL for a bit was in charge of burying low grade waste (Gloves, tools, equpment from the site)
He drove it in a van with flashing lights and they all wore radiation detectors, the locals would run indoors.
The ground they dug out to make the hole was 100x more radioactive than the stuff they were putting in.

I actually took a plane today to the states for the first time in my life. I am such a bitch for travelling without a conscience after spending most of my life without a car etc. My carbon footprint is forever tainted :(
