Yea - sadly thats not in my price range, I'll have 2gb of ram.

Only really building this pc so I can play armed assault, CS source and games of that level (supcom, oblivion etc).

Not really sure how long I'll get to play on it though so I'm only spending a few hundred on it.

Crysis does look really really nice though

I guess you have dual/quad core and minimum 2gb ram? then you should be fine.

They said they're aiming to get people who can play this with a 3 year old machine, but to get the best out of it you'd need a pc 1.5 years in the future lol.

iirc one of the dev's said a dual core cpu + X1950 / 7900GT/S ran the game pretty damn well!

if you want to run it at 22" i would get a GTX at least, or an ultra if you can afford it

Thats what I should have yea - core2 duo cpu, asus p5k mobo, 2gb corsair 6400 ram - still waiting on these bits though, which should get here by the weekend

I've got a radeon 9600SE at the moment running on a p4 2.8, originally all I was going to buy was a geforce 7800gs+ but I had alot of trouble with it, ended up sending it back and being offered something in the same price range, the 8800gts fit the bill so I've had to upgrade the mobo from agp to pci, so instead of just doing the mobo I decided a new cpu and ram would be a good idea too

At the moment I'm running CS Source on a config file that turns everything off, and I get 40fps. I'm trying not to drool whilst wondering what it'll be like once I get the new system sorted

Yes it will run great at 1680x1050 or below, anything higher than that resolution though and you will be needing the 640mb version or even the 768mb GTX to have all the bells and whistles enabled.

The new rig I built for my mate last week might have a good go! Quad core at 3.4ghz, 8gb of low latency DDR2 and an 8800GTX 768mb overclocked beyond Ultra speeds.

You'd need to double check but some quad/dual core cpu's have 1333 FSB . Some Intel P35 boards can cope with 1333 FSB, however by default they will run at 1066 FSB.

The chipsets are slightly ahead of the mobo's, however if your board can support 1333FSB you can change the setting for a free overclock!

640mb is plenty of memory for going above 1680x1050 however it would mean dropping the quality sliders a little as the pixel shaders have alot more work to do when you go above that resolution which is why the GTX excels having 33% more pixel shaders and a higher clockspeed. Still the 640mb will rock at 1680x1050 as will the 320mb version. Personally I only run 1680x1050 anyway as that is my screens native resolution and I have no intention of changing my screen for at least 2 more years, I am sure many other people are in the same boat and any game should look great at that resolution to be honest.

Yep - same here, my monitor wont actually go above 1024x768, (which makes it sound so old its like something built in WW2 to help decode the enigma machine, I know), but its actually a pretty nice monitor, so I'll be more than happy with that resolution I think

I would never want to go higher than 1280x1024 on my monitor, but it's a 17" flatscreen so it's not the biggest screen going.

You will find that 90% of 22inch screens are 1680x1050 bud, once you jump to 24inch the defacto standard changes to 1920x1200 and 30inch to 2560x1600.

There is a reason why most 22inch screens are 1680x1050 as well, to create 22inch panels with the pixel density required for 1920x1200 the manufacturer ends up making the sacrifice of much lower yields to the point where the screen costs double.

It will work great but you have to be prepared for one thing, you will not have the texture memory available on the card for using ultra high res textures or ultra high detail settings in alot of upcoming games. That said though running most new games at 'high' settings looks awesome anyway and the GTS has more than enough grunt to do 1680x1050 with that detail level. Of course as time goes on you will find yourself having to drop to medium settings for 2008/2009 games but that is the nature of the beast anyway.

1366x768 with x8aaQ and 16AF looks killer on my 50inch HDTV, would dearly love a 1080p screen of the same size or bigger though.

Off topic but I do wish Nvidia would sort thier bloody drivers out, the HDTV support seems to get broken in every other version and the custom resolution support wasn't working properly in the last 2 versions either.
