Executive Summary
--------
Windows Vista includes an extensive reworking of core OS elements in order to
provide content protection for so-called "premium content", typically HD data
from Blu-Ray and HD-DVD sources. Providing this protection incurs
considerable costs in terms of system performance, system stability, technical
support overhead, and hardware and software cost. These issues affect not
only users of Vista but the entire PC industry, since the effects of the
protection measures extend to cover all hardware and software that will ever
come into contact with Vista, even if it's not used directly with Vista (for
example hardware in a Macintosh computer or on a Linux server). This document
analyses the cost involved in Vista's content protection, and the collateral
damage that this incurs throughout the computer industry.

Perhaps he goes a bit far, I don't know, but I do know that I'll stick with XP or Linux untill all those limitations are hacked

Microsoft actually expect Vista to take off haha, companies will not upgrade until their normal upgrade cycles to be fair which can 3-5 years. They are hardly going to fork out of new hardware (Desktops etc) just to run a OS full of secuirty holes as has been the case with most of microsofts past releases. I won't expect any serious upgrades untill at least Service pack 1, and I personally will not upgrade until I require native DX10 support.

Vista looks like a waste of time until they release software for it,
in short dont upgrade until you have to when the OS has matured and the major bugs have been ironed out (and you have bought a 500Gb hdd )

At work we still run 2k on alot of machines that are core services
