I'm not sure you're supposed to get dole money of you have 100 grand in the bank.

If you worked for the Civil Service you can if they make you redundant it wasn't by choice i was forced out like the other 100 people who worked in the same building.

Yep am thinking about Investing it then again im also considering buying a cheap house abroad and living out there for the rest of my life.

Even with conservative estimates you've got at least 100 grand if you've got enough cash to last you 8 years. Why don't you invest it? Buy a house and become a landlord or something?

Whilst I sympathise about how hard it is to find work and how shit temping is having been in both situations myself last year, if I had £100k+ sat in my bank I'd be making it work for me rather than wait for rejection letter after rejection letter to land on the doorstep.

All this job hunting is starting to get me down to tell you the truth my GF is a solicitor and is very understanding because when she got all her quals for what she is doing now she was on the dole for about 1.5 years applying for job after job.

Then bam she got a letter through the post had an interview and that was it dream job.

Am just glad she understands exactly what i'm going through atm.

Most agencies will put you forward for full permanent roles, i guess its how well you tailor your CV to whichever role you are going for. They are desperate for permanent people because they get good commission on relatively little work. I guess it depends on what experience/qualifications you have in whichever field you are looking to work in. Anyway there is plenty of work out there.

To respond to the challenge of quitting my job and finding a new one, its totally down to the field you work in. I am a computer geek by trade and its trivial for me to find work. In 10 years I might be absolutely fucked though, the market moves fast.

I'm a postie, well of sorts. I work for royal mail in one of their Data Entry Centres.

The strikes are a result of the Unions wanting a higher than the basic 2.5% pay increase Royal Mail offered. Also if other companies are handing more mail, taking this work load away from Royal Mail then the staffing levels at the moment are not in propotion to the amount of work requiring them to 'work'? Would any other business keep people on or carrying on recuriting when the workload continues to decrease?

Royal Mail needs to make changes now and moderisen. The Government released funds to back the future business plan to achieve this. This will mean a lot of changes now, but hopefully mean better services e.t.c in the future.

The Union are a strong body and in the past strikes have worked, but this time they won't. Royal Mail have a 10 year plan to moderisen the business and if it takes a few months of strikes to finally reach an end to this mess then Royal Mail can afford to do it. Problem with striking also means losing pay and not many posties can afford to do that so in the long term it's a waiting game. Who will crack first .

It probably means a lot more strikes in future, but if it's a one day strikes does it really matter waiting one day longer for something to arrive?

I don't agree with the strikes as you can probably tell, but I understand why the union are frustrated and I guess they have been backed into a corner, hence the strikes.

I also have been made redundant, in fact my last day at my current job is this friday. I've had loads of interviews over the consultation period and a few offers. I start a new job on 13th August.

I challenge anyone here to quit their job now and find another i'll bet money your still looking for work come 2 months time.
