In the process of designing my site, done all the design and asp stuff and is nearly ready for launch.

What is the best way to promote a new site. What search engine submission tool should I use?

Should I submit to other sites?

Are affiliates any good?

Might as well stick it in the search engines but don't expect any thing since its like sticking a needle in a haystack then trying to find it again

If its good enough then word will spread, affilates are all right but again depends who.

I would recommend manually submitting to search engines. Most tools that do it for you generally do it very badly. It makes take a few minutes to submit your site, but it will be well worth it in the future.

You will have to optimise your site so that it ranks fairly high in the search engines results. The best way to do this is to exchange links with sites similar to yours. The more quality links that you have incoming into your site, the higher the ranking generally. Include as many meta tags in your site as possible. Anything slightly related to your site should be included in a meta tag. This will allow access to your site from a variety of different searches.

You must have some quality content in your site. During a site's initial existance, word of mouth is the best way of promoting your site. If others like your site, then they will tell their mates and their mates and so on.

Finally you could make use of Toplists. Dunno how good these are, but they could throw a little traffic your way.
