Ok, i'll rephrase...

Moonstones combat system was :p

you have played both havent you?

barbarian = spam decaptiate move and do crappy rolls for ever.

moonstone = teh pwn, multiplayer rpg action!

I think barbarian only sold on the strenght of Maria Whittakers breasts (I got the poster somewhere) and its one decaptiate move.

Not a bad game, though it didn't really capture my interest compared to the epics like Dungeon Master, Chaos Strikes Back, Captive and Eye of the Beholder's 1 & 2.

All of which can be downloaded from the Underdogs, for those wanting a classic gaming fix. Dungeon Master is still quite groundbreaking by today's standards.

Ya, ive played both, but not for about 15 years, so my memories might be a little confusald :m00:

I'm not denying moonstone was a great game. But from what I remember in my near senile state, is that the combat wasnt that different :O

Dungeon master, now theres a cool game for a couple of reasons. Firstly as you say it was excellent (I played though it several times, got a bout 3 endings if I recall correctly), secondly it was possibly the first decent game written almost entierly in C, showing you didnt need to code purely in machine code to make groundbreaking games.

Didnt like the sequal that much, was a good few years later and no real improvement. Liked Eye of the beholder, and yes captive was ace too (except that my old friend mr Crowther messed up the random key spawn so you couldnt actually get beyond a certain points without a cheat).

Yeah, dont boot them up today, remember them how they were, memories are better than the reality ;)

Both borrowed from... well on the home platforms it was Way of the Exploding fist I guess, though there where some dodgy jap arcade games before that.

Whats weird is that i can barely remember anything from my childhood, yet i can remember that in Buck rogers CTD, martian = +1 bonus, Venusian = +2 , Mercurian = + 3 and Lunarian = +4. With a Venusian needle gun and your character specced to +3 you were and an unstoppable force.

Kinda scary to be honest.. The computer stole my childhood!!

Having two high level Archmages and a sorc in bards tale 3 rocked too.

Now what was my dogs name back then...

First RPG i played was probably gateway to asphsai

Dungeon Master absolutely rocked. I recall me and a friend having a "who can complete it first?" competition, our Atari STs back to back, beer and crisps on hand. It took most of the day iirc, and was pretty funny. (Think we were pissed before we actually finished tbh, as I don't recall who won heheh)

Ful Ir! Still remember that years later. Gonna have to check out the java version, and also check this Moonstone thing out.

Happy days :)

I downloaded Dungeon Master from this site:

Many other classic games, including the excellent Bloodwych, which I'm still having problems running, can be found at Home of the Underdogs for anyone not already familiar with this excellent site. :drink:

Never got to play Moonstone much, but had fun with it. I pwned much in the start, until i had to fight 3 trolls? with some huge sticks. 2 of em was easy, then the 3rd made a terrible front attack and my might was lying around the whole screen in small pieces :-P

lo zo kath ra (woot a zokathra spell! which creates a block of zokathra... whatever that is)

remember doing "spell research" which invovled finding a fountain and having lots of food and trying out different things on the wall ;)

found fireball on the second level of the dungeon (the spell scroll is about the 7th or something ) by doing that - course I was right against the wall and wiped out half the party :p
