BBC NEWS | Technology | Young women dominate UK net scene
Ok now I know that they are just reporting the findings of a survey but still, what a load of bullshit. Yes women are using the net more and more but to say they are now the dominant internet user group is sheer fantasy, these groups compile statistics from surveys with small test groups and then try to pass these figures over as being the norm. They then sell the data on to market research and advertising groups who in turn use it to con advertisers into targeted advertising at an audience they have been tricked into believing is much larger than it actually is.
Now, here is why I disagree with this particular survey. My 12 year plus experience of the internet has taught me to take these 'survey' results with a pinch of salt, they are passing conclusions that amount to little more than a guess as actual fact. Let's put it this way, every and I do mean every male I know over the age of 12 uses the internet on a regular basis, at least half of the females in my friends and family have never used a computer beyond typing a later and sending an email. I come from a very average area and a normal family, I have a vast diversity of friends from different backgrounds and I would consider my experiences to be pretty much the norm as well. Based on that I can tell you that I know far more males than females who are regular internet users, of course that doesn't make my experiences the norm either but I do consider it to be much closer to the truth than these blood surveys.
Anyway, what are other peoples thoughts on this? I am genuinely interested to know.
