Whats the best tactics for taking defended keeps now?

If the forces are equal what tactics should be used to prevail?

Who are your realm siege specialists?

Ask the rangers and scouts. Shooting for silly distances when inside a keep.

unless im mistaken bolts have just as much range"if not more"? and faster cast/more dmge,

only comfort archers have is that they can shoot from stealth and take more time choosing a target.

also again unless immistaken casters have advantage when attacking cos there is no allowence for magic dmge going up always same range. whereas arrows are effected by elevation.

You are mistaken.
Unmodified possible ranges
Bolts 1875.
Scouts 2200
Rangers 2100
Hunters 2000

Scouts and Rangers can hit you on top of a lvl 10 tower from down below, without having to have 10% range, whereas a hunter needs to have +10% range and use the braggerts arrows to do the same.

Yes Archers do have a disadvantage when shooting upwards, but they do shoot father when from up high than any caster can ever dream about (Except the new warlock in catacombs)

Have many classes with nearsight, 1 way of making fotms unable to fight for awhile.

Might as well go afk while the NS effect is on you. :p

yep, then you are mistaken, cause rangers, scouts and hunters have way more range when up on walls than casters have, cause our range doesnt increase when we are at a higher spot than the enemy, it does with scouts, rangers and hunters. :D

I think as Mids demonstrated the other day at a Tower retake, the best plan is bring lots of Trebuchets. I think they had atleast 10, if not 15. They just pounded the Tower (from a distance) into oblivion. Forget about the gates, once the Tower has no "hp" people inside can get hit by the Trebs.

Ok, would take a bit longer and maybe you'd need 30-40 Trebs for a lvl 10 Keep. All you need to do is persuade people to carry a Treb in RvR.

You might as well use volley. Despite being nerfed, it doesn't get affected by NS :p

The thing about Trebs is that you can only have 3 attacking a single section of a keep (or tower) at any one time. It also takes quite a long time to reduce a level 10 wall section or tower to rubble, and you can open the gate a lot faster using a war ram.

The main problem as I see it is that people are trying to open high level gates with siege rams... which just isn't going to work, because they don't do enough damage. You need to combine 2 to make a battle ram and then combine that with a third siege ram to make a war ram, which will then splinter any door into so much kindling! ;)

People also need to learn how to use the new rams effectively. Having a well coordinated team on board makes them do a reasonable amount of extra damage and decreases the swing time so you can open doors even faster... Any group that is serious about sieges needs to practice working as a team on rams so that they can get into higher level keeps and towers as fast as possible.

As someone has already mentioned, when defending you should use Palintones on your towers (not Trebs, as I seem to see many people doing) to take out enemy siege equipment. And have casters concentrate on trying to kill enemies who are controlling siege equipment... ;)

hmm cool, only used it once, wasn't very usefull tho didn't kill anything as it didn't hit anyone more then once after about 10 minutes of trying, but there was alot of hibs at the tower, so that was prob the reason.

Found it usefull for killing grey cons thinking their safe out of my LoS tho ;D

Yeah, i carry 3 Seige Rams (ie one War Ram) on my Druid. Problem i have is getting people to use it once i build it. No point a healer sitting in a Ram unless the Keep is empty, since you can't even heal yourself.

Defending: Get buffed to teeth, wait for the first gate to go down, wait for the enemy melee pack on the second door, port out, run to the second door, hit MoC, spam PBAE and listen to all the "Oooh, Aaah" when people see your killspam. ;)

Used to work like a wonder.... :D
