I've talked to my recruiter but to be honest I've learnt to take what they say with a rather large pinch of salt.

One thing I learned in basic training is that AFCO staff are liars. It's their job to fill the gaps in the trades. Not sure how transferring is in the army but in the RAF it was an administrational nightmare and was almost unheard of.

Another thing I will say to anybody else who's joining up, the worst part of training was the gas chamber (or respirator testing facility because only the nazis used gas chambers) taking in a lungful of CS gas is a horrible experience and you stagger out like the guy oin robocop with the condom fingers. I believe paras have to do more than just name rank and number when they're in there too.

I agree it was actually pretty scary a few of the lads i was with cried before going in!

Had my interview today!

I told the guy I wanted to go for the Parachute Regiment, no other 'second choice' at this stage, which he seemed fine about. I told him about my latest 1.5 mile time (11 minutes) and that I'd got it down 60 seconds in the last week alone, and he said that as long as I was running it in under 10 at the RSC then I would be fine.

I booked myself onto an insight course down in Colchester at the end of september, which the recruiter seemed impressed with, and said that as soon as I get back from that, let him know how it goes and he'll book the earliest RSC date possible.

So after september I should be well on my way to the parachute regiment No doubt things will get complicated at some point but at the moment I'm pretty happy with how it went, just looking forward to getting in there! Now that I've got a date to work to I think I should find the fitness training a bit easier, and assuming I get on alright at the insight course I should beable to go all the way

Now if you'll all excuse me, I'm going out for a long run, and then I'm going to get properly pissed!
