It wasn't a childish insult, it was a statement of fact. I could give you a long treatise about the decline of event television in a multi-channel world, and the role of reality television as the modern equivalent of bread and circuses, designed to keep the plebian masses happy, but I prefered the more concise version, with added bold and caps for emphasis. Reality television isn't completely irredeemable, but in a world where 90% of everything is shit (Sturgeon's Revelation), reality tv more than punches above its weight.

Myself I tend to find such programs terminally dull because they're too tailored, the people are selected to hit it off (or not), and the controlling entitiy usually has to dig deep by exposing the viewer to deliberately out of context shite because nothing else ever happens. also people doing tricks for money rubs me the wrong way.
All this I have distilled from the few episodes I've endured in the company of others. in conclusion, 99.9% of *all* tv is utter tripe, especially american "shock-docs". Living in Holland as I do, Dutch tv makes me cry. it seems that the only things they make themselves these days are reality shows and sexline commercials. the rest is all imported directly from the US and reeks of shiteness.

The Top Model shows are bollocks. My wife watches it all the time and I am yet to see one of the winners of these shows on the cover of a magazine in a newsagents.
The Apprentice is decent and I love Ramsays kitchen nightmares, but the rest of it is all bollocks.

The Apprentice does nothing for me because I find the thought of getting home from work to watch a TV show about the same thing too depressing for words. Gordon Ramsay is sometimes amusing but I can't say I'd ever go out of my way to watch any of his stuff.

Well no, (Oh God I can't beleive I'm defending a reality tv show), I'm pretty sure these shows don't say "you will be Britain's Next Top Model", its more about giving the winner the opportunity through a modelling contract, cover shoot etc. which I'm pretty certain has happened. After all, the show doesn't control the industry, even the heavyweights in this genre like the XFactor and Pop Idol don't guarantee the winner will make it, just that they'll got opportunities. The title is what's called in advertising terms; "puff", its not meant to be taken as literal truth!
