Oh blimey, hello Interpol circa 2002.

There's plenty of good music about atm, just cos it isn't being played on radio 1 doesn't mean it's not there.

Some of the worst lyrics I've ever heard.

The teenagers will love it though.

Such as?

I need some new stuff to listen to.

(As for my Radio1 comment, i simply meant artist's stand a much better chance of breaking if Radio1 play their stuff.)

hmm currently I'm listening to:
  • the tindersticks
  • the ting tings
  • santogold
  • FM Belfast
  • Kings of Leon
  • joan as police woman
  • My Brightest Diamond
  • Vampire Weekend
  • Los Campesinos!
  • Low
    and a fellow called
  • Diplo

not saying anything in that list is particularly new or awesome, but I like it and there may be something in there you've not yet heard *crosses fingers*

What kind of stuff are you into?

Theres a lot of good electro about but i guess it's not everyones cup of tea. Also, the older generation keep telling me it's just rehashed stuff from the 80's which it probably is, but I wasn't alive for most of the 80's so fuck off :D

In terms of proper rock n' roll bands there isn't too much about to be fair.

Florence and the Machine have been about a while now, but they're quite good - Florence and The Machine on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads

Bon Iver - Bon Iver on MySpace Music - Free Streaming MP3s, Pictures & Music Downloads

2009 will be a year about electro and dance-pop (again) though, so i guess if you're not into that kind of stuff then you're gonna have to be digging out the old records.

Is Low still as suicidally miserable as it used to be in Things We Lost in the Fire?

well I have The Great Destroyer and I quite like it, though while happy music it is not, it's not uber doom and gloom imo.

I can heartily recommend the Fleet Foxes. Trem, you should get on not-oink and check it out. You'll love them.

Whats this not-oink you speak of?

Bob has a pretty good taste in music, a far wider appreciation than I do. He knows his stuff as well and has suggested quite a few bands to me who are awesome (Elbow being the main one back in the day).

electro-pop then, whatever.

That video Tom linked too is Little Boots who recently won the BBC 'who's gonna be the star of 2009' thing. Theres loads of videos on youtube of her doing covers from the last couple of years on her Tenori-on and some on synths on keyboards. My favourite one is her cover of Haddaway's What is Love?YouTube - Little Boots - What Is Love (Haddaway Cover) She has an album due some time this year and first single in May.

watching that Little Boots vid (sweet how she samples with her toes btw) led me to another of her playing a Tenori-On which led me to this by another artist

YouTube - I am Robot and Proud Plays the TENORI-ON

I want one now. It's the most awesome thing I've ever seen. It appeals to my nerditry on so many levels it's just amazing.

So it's called a Tenori-On, hmm, it was also featured on xbox live for some (i think it was) channel 4 weekend collaboration.

Reminds of years back when i used to write chip music on the Amiga. Altho we had much more talent back then :D

The BBC told me little boots would be huge this year!

But then I actually listened to her and thought she was a bag of wank.

heh indeed. I remember turning the lights off in my room and watching demo after demo on my Amiga. gosh sweet were the days.

still have the awesome hots for a Tenori-On though. a zillion things you can do with it and you don't have to plug it into some scary music proggy -though you can-, buttbh if I had a choice I'd try to get a monome (or preferably both that and the other haha)

I went to school with Little Boots and she's a cousin of a friend of mine ^^.

Kinda weird a classmate becoming a popstar.
