Excellent. Don't want Sturridge getting crocked for England.

I don't understand - it says the summer transfer window compared but it doesn't actually compare it to anything - it's just a breakdown?

Hah, I saw that. He looked crap when he came on at the weekend, he seems to have completely lost interest. You could probably trace it back to when Ronaldo went to RM tbh.

It's comparing deadline day with the window as a whole.

No, to be fair he looked a lot better when he came on the other day, but he's had one good season when Ronny left and find nothing since. Make him work for the contract.

I guess he wasn't really given a chance to impress against Liverpool but I just thought he didn't really achieve anything. The whole team was a bit shite though so perhaps it's unfair to single him out. :)

I remember his first couple of seasons after he came in with Anderson, the pair of them were great. Anderson always seems out of shape at the start of every season and Nani is just... well, I don't know what Nani is. He puts a shift in all the time but his crosses and passes have been woeful from what I recall.

Shame - I'd like to have seen it comparing the same breakdown to previous years.
I don't know that a breakdown of who spent what, compared with previous seasons is really interesting or revealing. I suppose a profit/loss figure for each prem team for each window over the past x years might be, though. Or a deadline day total vs a total for the whole window for each year, maybe.

Surely you couldn't play through it though because assuming you play at least once a week, its going to reopen every time before it has a chance to heal.

It wouldn't be the first time Rooney's opened up an old gash.

So you have 2 fit CB's. You also have 1 young CB out for the season, who has been unimpressive when he has played and who in all likelyhood will be shipped out ASAP. And one injured veteran out for a couple of months who probably has 2 seasons left in him at most. 1 of your 2 fit CB's has been out of favour with the manager since he joined and although he had a great game this past weekend, he is often shit. The other fit CB is a good but not great centre back who spends most of his time injured. You mention 2 other players, Wisdom and Kelly, both of whom have spent most of their young careers playing full back rather than centre back.

You bring in one of the most talented young centre backs in europe in Sakho, who also provides cover at left back, and another inexperienced but highly regarded centre back who is very much one for the future.

You are moaning about this?

Apart from the fact that I disagree with your assessment, I think you've also missed my point.

No - I'm happy with the incoming defenders. Strength in depth and all of that - and I've already stated that.

As stated - I'm unhappy that we haven't made a "marquee" signing where we need to - in the attacking 3rd of the field. I'm unhappy that the club is attempting to gloss over this by saying Sakho is that signing - when he clearly isn't.

However, I'm happy that Aldo has the same assessment of the situation as me - not you - as can be seen in the article :)

If true... wow. That's a long way from the spotless, 'family club' image Barcelona try to portray.

Rubbish.

He's on contract to the club. If he's not available through illness then he doesn't get paid. Same as me (when I'm working) - no show = no pay.

If Abidal was injured in service to the club he'd have been paid. But he wasn't.

If he didn't like the terms of the contract he shouldn't have signed them or should have taken out insurance in case he fell ill. This is standard practice for many people and considering both the above and the fact that his weekly takehome was probably equal to my yearly income - therefore he's unbelieveably financially well off compared to the vast majority of the planet - I have no sympathy.

Man up Abidal. Lots of people have to sell their houses for treatment...

Comes down to a lack of class at the club. I would be very disappointed if Arsenal did not do the right thing. And I would be shocked if Stiliyan Petrov was not getting paid till he retired. If I am sick I get sick pay as I am on a full time permanent contract footballers are the same.

Also isn't this is what player insurance is for?

Depends on what the right thing is when dealing with multimillionaires.

I've a friend who is board-level at an advertising company. He's always stunned that his 150k/year is complemented by a very expensive car, life insurance and private medical. His quote is "just when I need it least - because I can afford it myself - they give me everything I needed when I was poor"...

If I am sick I get sick pay as I am on a full time permanent contract footballers are the same

Footballers traditionally got paid through either their own Ltd. or managed service companies so the rate of tax they have to pay is incredibly low. They've taken steps against this in the PL but I'm pretty sure they haven't elsewhere.

Also - if you're sick the legal thing is SSP in the UK - and that doesn't kick in until 3 days off. And is fuck all.

Abidal claims he wasn't paid while he was being treated for cancer:

The headline is misleading. If you read the article, he doesn't (as the headline states) criticise Barca for not paying him when he was ill, he uses the no pay thing as an example that money wasn't particularly an issue (for him) in his departure from Barca to Monaco. Typical newspaper misdirection tbh, the Graun are no better than the scummiest tabloid sometimes.

I'm not really sure how players are paid by various clubs but I'm guessing they're like self-employed contractors, which means ultimately they're responsible for their own healthcare unless its a "work-related" issue (e.g. injury).

Yeah that is where who you are working for makes a difference I get full pay for up to a year depending on what is wrong with me. Stress is excluded as it is too easy to fake and that has all sorts of alternative working clauses built into that sick pay.

I still think that is where insurance should come in. Maybe like you say insurance only kicks in if it is a football related injury sidelining the player. I am still keen to know if Villa paid Petrov.

BBC Sport said:
Polish clubsLech Poznan and Piast Gliwice have been ordered to partially close their stadiums after both were charged over racist behaviour and display of a racist banner and were also fined 5,000 euros (£4,210)

5000 euros! However will they survive?

Ronny? Is that Shrek aka Rooney? Mind is slow, feels like it is in the Croydon area so forgive me.

"@OptaJoe: 7 - Danny Welbeck has scored with seven of his eight shots on target for England. Sharp."
