yep watched the game earlier and as I posted at the time, west ham truly were awful. I think the 5-0 result doesnt actually reflect how much better Forest were. they controlled the game and it always looked like west ham were going to get stuffed.

Actually it was slightly under what they could of achieved when you consider the first half.

I do, but I don't get wound up by it. I didn't even want Moyes when the rumours were going round originally so I'm hardly surprised with how we're playing.

It's 50% Moyes, 50% structural problems that Fergie hid through sheer force of will. They have to buy, but not many January buys make an immediate impact. This season is a write-off

Hope so.

Then I hope they blow 200m on a team full of Juan Sebastian Veron's :)

I hope Liverpool sells Suarez to Real and they splash it all on a new Andy Caroll :)

It's a shame Dalglish isn't the manager any more, he'd have offered £30m+ for Bendtner after his recent run of form.

Who wouldn't? Arsenal won't be able hold onto him in this transfer window. Barca or Real will get him I reckon

What, like Spurs did with the cash from Bale? :)
No, like the last time, when Liverpool actually bought Andy Carroll for £35 million and he scored a whopping 6 goals, before he was shipped off again :)

Meh, at least we didn't keep trying to play him like Man U did with Veron, and had a managerial change when we shipped him off shortly afterwards.

Don't hang on to your mistakes :)

He was 20 years old, bought for 16m. He'll probably be at the club until he's 30-odd. Not terrible value.

The amount of times that Arsene Wenger has held onto someone who's underperformed and watched them improve, eh?

Veron, on the other hand, was supposed "proven quality" - and was the premier leagues most expensive ever player at the time.

It isn't a mistake if they turn out good. While is isn't exactly the best player in the world he is doing ok for a (currently) very good Liverpool side. 15mil was a lot of money for him though...

He looked a mistake in his first 2 years because he was shit, Scouse said "don't hang on to your mistakes". He turned out well, but that doesn't mean he wasn't shit and didn't look like a massive mistake in his first 2 years.

He always looked like he would come good. We purchased him to develop him because we thought he'd come good. Not a mistake - just a player developing as he should - and as we intended him to.

Veron? Even when he was let go for half his price to Chelski (for another period of fail) Fergie couldn't bring himself to admit that he'd bought a pup and called the media "fucking idiots" :D

I'm not arguing that Veron wasn't a mistake. Just that Dalglish made a lot of them. How much did Liverpool lose on Downing as well?

Southampton probably made the biggest mistake of all time though.

Well, the director of football who bought the players was sacked eh :)

Surez came in on Dalglish's watch, Hendo came in, Torres was flogged to Chelski.

I'll give you Downing tho. He'd been great for Villa (still thought it was a horrendous fail before we signed him tho) but I think the expectations at liverpool weighed in too much on him. He never played with freedom - but that's a mental thing more than anything else. Still, 20m on a player is peanuts in todays market :(

I still maintain that Andy Carroll is a good player btw - I think he would be the saviour of West Ham if he was fit. His playing style was never going to fit under Rodgers tho - the temptation to lob a ball up to a tall player, or to put a lot of crosses in (rather than play neat short passes into feet - which is our style under Rodgers) is too great.

I feel sorry for Carroll tbfh. He didn't deserve the price tag. Once Torres made it clear he was going the £15 million + Andy Carroll deal we made with Chelski gave him that tag.

Well played Mike Ashley tbfh.

Veron wasn't the lemon he's made out to be. He actually played well for United in the CL, but he suffered from "wet-Tuesday-at-Stoke-in-November-itis" which is a common fate of players who cut their teeth in Serie-A. Plus he was injured a lot. Frankly as mistakes go, Veron wasn't even in Fergie's top 10. Not buying a midfielder for five years is proving to be a bit more serious.

Its very easy to say you should get rid of your mistakes but in reality that's what United did, he was only at OT for two years, and he was injured for half his first season, so a chance in his second was inevitable. If anything United might have been better served giving him at least another season. Whether you like it or not, there's political baggage that comes with high-ticket signings which means owners/boards won't simply allow a manager to offload at the first sign of weakness; it's the manager's job to get the most out of the signings (whether he wanted them or not), hence Torres at Chelsea, for example.

Yes. Yes he was.

A couple of decent games in the CL doesn't wipe out two years of shite for a PL record signing.

Agree with the rest of your post tho.

I still think we've bought more lemons than most, some very expensive lemons too.
