What the fucking shit? Did a different England team turn up or something? Didn't bother watching it. Wish I had now!

It wasn't pretty but the defensive organisation and grit was good to see.

Just got back, we were total shit for 90% of the match, especially after we went 1-0 up, every time we had the ball we just hoofed it up to Welbeck... we were pretty lucky to not concede.

The first half was also terrible from us..

Btw does anyone know why the Spain fans were booing Torres every time he got the ball? totally weird..

From an abysmal performance pretty much yeah, doesn't matter if its Spain or not, no positive things to say apart from we beat 1-0..

Not really. We defended well, but our passing, movement and attacking play was awful. We never looked like scoring, and you can't exactly have a game plan of "defend well and hope to score from a set piece" as in a real tournament that won't count. This was a friendly at the end of the day.

And we only defended well cause we had 10 players in the box and 1 player upfront lol...

I thought we played well tbh. There was no other way to play against Spain. Lescott, Cole and Parker were superb in defence.

There was a long period where pretty much every pass as misplaced, it was terrible!

We won't get anywhere in the Euros if we play like that, that's for sure.. Surely we have someone better than Milner to play on the wing also even with Young injured :s stick a league 2 dude in ;p milner is sooooo slow

Fucking lol, during Darren Bent's twitter q&a session with the FA, a nice question was submitted by a Sunderland fan (top left):

Football doesnt have to be beautiful to win trophies. Greece did it a couple of year back. As they say in the NFL: A good offence sells tickets, but a good defence wins championships

I thought England played a decent match. They were able to close down Spain, the reigning champions of the world, and got a somewhat lucky goal. The football you played wasn't the best and at times it was like watching Barcelona passing the ball around trying to find a gap which just wasnt there. Against other teams it would have been frowned upon, but against Spain it is pretty much the only way to play them atm. If you try to attack the ball, gaps will appear and they will punish you instantly.

Sad we won, better lessons to be learnt from a humiliation.

Like there being too many foreign players in our league? That only a handful of teams win anything so only a select few England players know how to play at the highest level and deal with the pressures involved?

We don't need a spanking to know these things.

Not having foreign players in the league doesn't make domestic players get better. Better training makes them get better.

GRIT PASSION ETC. lolz.

No, clearly capello, most of the fa, our press and the majority of the sheep supporting the team dont understand the flaws in our setup or development. False dawns like this do nothing but delay the tough decisions that should have been made years ago. And you are miles off with the foreign players thing.

The foreign player question is best answered with the fact the last time there was a ban England failed for qualify for 3 major competitions. People need to stop looking for the easy answer and look into our youth setup. Within 15 years the yank will be beating us as they give kids a reason to play Football. So where our top talent is getting stabbed while sniffing glue on the street theres will spend 4 years getting professional training and an education.

Meh, your top teams have excellent coaches. The problem is that those teams have only a scattering of English players. As long as club football comes first the international team will struggle.

England were the underdogs against Spain so grit and determination were the only way we were going to win. They are not bad things to have and I struggle to understand the sheer stupidity at laughing at those qualities.

Arsenals youth set up has bout 30 to 40 English players. But they will not all be good enough to break into the first team. And saying well they are English so lets play them anyway will not help the National Team.

It should not be left up to the clubs the FA should set up regional centers of excellence which could be funded by clubs paying a fee when they sign a player. I like how it works in the states with the draft. You could have the newly promoted teams get first choice on the best talent in the country. It can help them compete or help them make some money.

Well it just proves they couldn't win either way doesn't it. If they played an attacking, pressing game and lost 4-2 or whatever you'd have slaughtered them for being naive, instead they tried to frustrate the best attacking setup in world football and tried to get something on the break. It wasn't pretty, the possession still needs work (some of the passing was awful) but it got the result.

That's the problem though, we didn't learn anything from that match at all. We already know a team of lesser players can win a match, look no further than the Swiss who did it at the world cup. The difference was the swiss created a couple of other chances on the counter attack.

Bent was useless, due to having no service at all. Possession was shocking.

England's problems are well known, Brazil, Spain, Germany, Italy, Argentina, Mexico, and a fuck load of others would not be changing their starting 11 almost every other game, and certainly do not alter their particular style of play. The under 21's are being managed by pearce who has not got a clue, there is no hope. :(

The under 21's are our only hope, we can only hope Pearce does not totally destroy them. Imagine if we had a coach like Coyle in charge of your youth setup. We really need a young couch who believes in good technical football to be coaching our players at this level, if not earlier.

Hell, break the bank and go for a big name, we are already probably paying Pearce a small fortune anyway.

Increase broadcasting, decrease ticket prices = overall increase in profits.

Though I think in reality it'd just make the rich clubs richer and the poor clubs poorer.
