.....

I am saying the Dutch league is so bad that any success from strikers there does not mean they will be good in a decent league. On the whole the defenders are terrible, any decent ones soon move abroad.

Dutch league defenders are essentially just extra goal posts. I wouldn't take success there as any mark of quality...

You sorta gotta point. If you leave out "league" then you are spot on. We, the Dutch, are poor at defending and/or producing them. Goalkeepers oth are our best export. Along with coaches, midfielders and strikers.

To add to that, having seen Chivu play at Ajax was a dream come true. As mentioned before Alex is also ace. The problem is that defenders as a whole don't get the credit they deserve. One serious fkup and you're d00med for live. This does not count for the rest of the players. Just try to name a couple of defenders known for their defending skills (instead of their passing, taking free kicks). I have a hard time naming a few. Mainly thinking of Italian (and recently Belguim) players, perhaps some Eastern Europe ones. Spanish, English, Dutch defenders are a joke.

Vermalala came from Dutch football and he is a great £10m purchase.

6 years hardly early on, when he was 23.. if he was offered the same money as he is on now, he would have stayed really.

Thats more to do with the attacking variety of football there, which reflects on the Dutch national team.. shit hot attack and wank defense. But some fantastic defenders have come from there and the leagues are always a feeder to the rest of Europe, all of the likes for VDV, Van Persie, Sneijder, Robben etc etc all left when they were young, does this mean the league is shit?

Because they opt for the philosophy of attack over defense? It's (as far as I understand) one of the Dutch principles, they'd rather play beautiful attacking football and loose then win ugly. And as for shit defending.. does the Prem suck then, and is Serie A pretty much the shit?

RVP has scored more goals at Stamford Bridge this season than Torres hasn't he?

It's almost 25 years since Fergie got the job at Old Trafford, here's a pic from his first game in charge away at Oxford United:

Fergie’s first ever United starting XI: Chris Turner, Mike Duxbury, Kevin Moran, Graeme Hogg, Arthur Albiston, Clayton Blackmore, Paul McGrath (in centre-mid), Remi Moses, Peter Barnes, Frank Stapleton, Peter Davenport - they lost 2-0

How things change, since then United have 2 more European Cups and Oxford United have had a spell in non-league football

Good to see them getting a few boots in if indeed he did bust his eardrum.
Wow, I saw mentions of this on twitter yesterday from a journo at the game, Steaua Bucharest were 2-0 up against Petrolul when that happened, two of the players who gave him a kicking to sent off and another Steaua player was hit by a flare. The game was finally abandoned and it's likely to be a 3-0 Steaua win, although the sent off players may be banned.

Supposedly the bloke who did has previous for this sort of thing!

Surprised to see Giggs wasn't in the starting XI
