Thing is its not just about saying, dont play xyz play abc. Neither Wilshere nor Hargreaves are fit.

The only 3 players that should've played are Scott Parker and Adam Johnson or Walcott.

Picking an international team is more about who is fit and able than who you want in the team. A more interesting discussion would be what formation/squad would you all pick?? You can assume everyone is fit

Walcott had a hamstring strain so couldn't play.

Milner and Barry were far worse than Lampard. Lampard was pedestrian, and more than certainly looks a shadow of his former self, but at least he completed the majority of his passes, didn't give the ball away in dangerous areas and can actually tackle. Barry and Milner were a fucking embarassment. Downing was a joke as well, has a more one-footed player ever played the game?

I think Adam Johnson is a better player than Downing, but he is never going to get the chance to show that whilst he plays for shitty. To be fair to Downing he is playing pretty well at the moment. He jazzed his man down the line and then hit a perfect pull back with his RIGHT foot for the goal. Pretty much the only reasonably impressive thing an England player did all game. But he plays for Liverpool so he is gash i guess.

smalling first choice right back? you having a laugh?

Also when gerrard is fit, he should play imo. Perhaps not the player he once was, but still shows flashes off brilliance (see the game against Hungary, i think it was, where we were 1-0 down and he turned the game round single handedly).

If not Smalling then who?

Glen Johnson? Great going forward, not so great defending and in that formation you need strong defensive full backs.

i'd honestly take big bad wesley brown over smalling.

edit. reason - smalling offers absolutely nothing going forward. 1 decent ball out of 5 does not constitute a decent contribution.

I agree, though give him another season and I think he will be a beast.

i agree, i think he'll be a top class centre back one day, but he's not a right back and it showed last night.

brown offers less attacking and looked a liability at defending last season

he's looked good this year so far though

edit - just looked him up on wiki and he retired from internationals apparently. I'd still take Johnson over smalling though. Even if he can't defend.

Right-back is pretty open at the moment, Richards has started the season well and Walker and Noughton both look like fairly good prospects.

Brown is ginger though. And black.

He just weirds forwards out.

Wes Brown is shit, Micah Richards is shit. Smalling is the best option with very little to choose from imo.

Oh, also, if I wasn't a Chelsea fan there's no way I'd choose JT either. :p

He is not ready yet but Jenkinson is a talent he could be England's right back in a few years.

Jenkinson gave one of the worst performances I've ever seen from a Premier League defender, there's a reason he couldn't get a game at Charlton :p

Kelly also looks like he should be a centre-back imo

He played well in the games before Man U. Even had to play at left back in the Champions League and did well. Easy to slag off a kid who isn't ready off the back of one performance against one of the best teams in the world and ignore the games where he looked reasonable though isn't it?

I thought Jenkinson was one of the only lads to ome out of the Utd match with any praise despite his Red card. He didn't hide or shy away, he will be a player for the future definately, his previous starts for Arsenal have shown that.

Hart

Naughton, Smalling, Jones, Cole

Cleverley, Wilshere, Johnson, Young

Rooney, Carroll

That is my starting eleven for the european championships!!! :p

I know there's no real experience but you know what I don't care. The experienced fookers have given me nothing to talk about other than their lack of effort/quality/desire for 10 years. So I'd rather the young uns have a blast!!!!

The squad would have the experienced folks, simply for their experience. But it's time we moved on past Gerrard and Lampard completely. Last night showed Lampard is out of touch with the international scene and shouldn't be anywhere near it.

Hopefully Cole retires from England before then :)

Who is the Johnson? Michael Johnson? That's pretty generous.

From his first pre season game to now Jenkinson has shown good improvement. He does that basics well and has great potential. He did not look world class vs united but i would say he put in the best shift of any of our back four. With Gibbs still out I hope he gets a game vs Swansy it will be good to see how he reacts after that game.

EDIT: Yup, chose to represent Finland currently. So forget him.
