Very positive game for Man u with all the youngsters stealing show. Only disappointing thing is really Carrick failed to turn up again, hate to say it but i think its about time he went now :/ never really seems to do much

I hate to say it, but I slightly agree on Carrick. He was England's best midfielder not so long ago, but now he has just faded away. It is a shame :(.

Welcome to Chelsea Romelu. Good signing, but not in the context of our squad sadly. Anelka is off next year for certain at least, but Kalou is past his sell by date by a country mile sadly.

Then we have Modric staying at Spurs, or so it seems, and Pastore signing for PSG. I'm getting concerned about our attacking midfield options. Someone give me hope.

Sorry if any of this is a little past the post in terms of what's been discussed, I've been away for a week on holiday.
Makes sense long term, he won't take up a squad spot and will count as homegrown in the future :) Seems a very determined young man although I shouldn't imagine he'll do that much this season.

Sounds like we'll bid again on Modric but i'd rather use McEachran and Benayoun than spunk 30m on him.

True. Even were this to be the case, I strongly believe we could do with another creative midfielder and a right winger also.

Munich began their season with a 0-1 home loss. Looks like things aren't looking up for them just yet. Robben and Ribery won't hang around if things don't change, surely? On that same topic: http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/match/2011/aug/07/bayernmunich-v-borussiamoenchengladbach didn't look like they played too badly, gotta sting to lose like that. :p

I'd be saying shitty shitty cunts, hahaha :) But I still wouldn't think it meant anything for the season ahead. You'd know this had you participated in any more than one of these games in the last 10 years :)

we've played in 3 in the last decade bud .... good job tho ;)

Unfortunately we gave him a new contract which extends his stay well beyond the usefulness of him. . . but nevermind. Spose against poor teams he can cover someone that is more useful so they get a rest.

I hope he's not just another Carlton Cole, I do have my reservations about players who are that big, same with Carroll. Apparently the initial fee is only ?11m with the rest being add-ons though.

Carlton Cole was always Can't Control. Lukaku has already done it at a somewhat decent level. Granted, the Premier League is a world ahead of the Belgian League, but I think it's unfair to draw any kind of comparison between those two. The fee is a big part of it though, ?11m plus add-ons is a sweet deal considering what other far less experienced players are going for.

Roberto Mancini still seems somewhat useless to me as a manager.

He seems to think football pitches have minefields down either wing. Why the fuck he bought Dzeko when the guy's only skill is getting on the end of crosses is beyond me.

Tom Cleverly has just got called up to the England squad for Wednesday... guess he impressed more than just me yesterday afternoon...... future England pairing of Cleverly and Wilshere could be truelly interesting. Both got some quality and a work ethic. Be nice to see them thrown together and the old boys left out.

Also be good if he played smalling and jones at the back at some point. They be the England pairing of the future and so be nice to see them given a workout against the Dutch ... afteral Rio and Terry are getting on and the sooner they get experience the better.

For the first time in ages the England teams future looks like it got true potential if we can get a manager that brings it out in them and is quick to adapt. Weakest points is probably still the fullbacks, but there are some youngsters that may be ready for that in a few years.

There's loads of potentially good fullbacks; Gibbs, Bertrand, Walker, Kelly, Naughton just off the top of my head.

aye, at the moment though it is just that... potential. Other positions there are players that already shown they can do well at a very high level but in full backs they mainly untested in many ways. Hoping a couple of them come through though.

Yup the future is bright for England, defensively and in midfield we really do have some talent coming through.

Obertan is having a medical at Newcastle today, and Spurs look like they are signing Diarra from Real Madrid. Looks like Modric is on his way if that goes through.

Only defense and midfield? Sturridge, Welbeck, Carrol to name but three.

No but I'd assume everyone knew these guys were already there and there abouts :)

What's frustrating is thinking back to the under 21's when Pearce has blatantly stopped these young lads from playing football. We were absolutely horrid, formation all wrong playstyle all wrong.

Couldn't agree more about Pearce.

I think Rodwell needs a big season to really announce himself, but he definitely has the potential.

I have to say I find it surprising Welbeck was called up over Sturridge though. On the subject of whom, I really hope he establishes himself at Chelsea this season.
