frazernewport on twitter: "with luis suarez and andy carroll signed, this means liverpool have lou and andy up front... 'yeah i know'."

2345: Harry Redknapp confirms to Sky Sports News that Tottenham made a bid - that was accepted - for Blackpool midfielder Charlie Adam late in the day, but that the deal fell through because "a couple of Blackpool shareholders" just failed to get the necessary signatures on the paperwork in time. So near. So far. So Tottenham.

according to some shit English press Gabriel alienhead Obertan has handed in a transfer request

someone buy the lad a calender

Maybe he's looking for a club below the Blue Square premier where it isn't applicable? Where he belongs tbh. :(

Harsh, have seen him play pretty well a few times but he is very much a confidence player and he is not going to get enough games at United to build that confidence up. United need to get him out on loan asap.

See your point there in a way, especially at ~£3 million as a signing for his apparent quality, but there's not too many games Man U can afford to play him in to build that quality and consistentcy within the squad.

A loan idea seems good, but Man U have seen a number of promising players be loaned, come back and not handle it and once again get farmed out or sold. It's a good cash earner for SAF but a little more strength in depth with a little more cash spent would be better imo for long term squad security. The 98/99 season (yes, that far back) was an example - Man U had 2/3 players of comparable or slightly lower quality to fill positions. Now there's a lot of developmental players. Maybe that's the economics of the game.

It was a crazy day nonetheless! Torres in blue? That might seem weird to begin with. I'd say the same about Carroll covered in red but that seems to happen on most of his benders. :p

I wonder who Arsenal signed at the last minute and will be getting the paperwork signed on Wednesday, in keeping with their last few transfer windows.

Falcao from Porto was a rumor a few days ago...but heard nothing else since.

Well the loan thing is working well for us currently, Welbeck has improved greatly by getting regular games at Sunderland. Cleverly has played well albiet in a very poor Wigan side. Macheda is out at Sampdoria and the seem to have promised him a good number of games too. All in all it is a good strategy if you already have enough cover anyway. With Valencia, Giggs, Nani, Park and Bebe we are pretty well covered on the wings and we have a few people who can cover as right/left sided midfielders should the need arise. Looking at the skills Obertan has I think he could make it at this level but he needs to push himself as well as being tested, the testing will only come from a loan though.

Supposedly a Torres quote from CTV

Torres: "It's every footballers dream to play for a big club and I can finally do that now"

;)

Why did Spurs want another central midfielder?

Let us put it this way, what we paid for Rooney now seems cheap compared to what you just paid for Carroll. ;)

You paid 26 million for a 18 year sperm stain that had scored 17 goals in almost 70 appearances for Everton. No CL and barely starting his England career (2 months?).

ManU took a gamble and it paid off.

Carroll is no different, he is a talent and the only difference in the situations here is that Rooney was a wee bit younger and loves to bash grannies and hookers :p

and it fits in with mr Henry's philosophy, buy players with personality problems, help them, watch them win :)

though he is hardly a Barton yet i guess :)

"We Atletico fans are different than the rest of the fans, i feel like that, just another fan. They wanted me to stay and that was key to make my decision of staying. The club knows they have received a lot of offers for me, lots of money, good for the club finances and for me, but at the end, there is nothing more important than this feelings"

Torres signed for Liverpool less than a year later.

but hes a lifelong chelsea fan now, just like he was a lifelong liverpool fan, athletico fan... etc :p

why on earth would he hang around a team that has been collapsing around his ears, didnt even qualify for CL (and doesnt look like it will this year either), it makes no sense!

i look forward to seeing him play for Chelsea, though i am intrigued how the system will work :)

Carlo will either continue to play three up top and they'll just chop and change as they wish, which could be interesting, or as megadave was saying to me last night, he might dabble in 4-1-3-2

Mikel

Essien Lampard Malouda

Torres Drogba

Also - You'll never guess who's 'February' in the Newcastle official calendar :D

No no, don't rerwrite history. Rooney was coming on as a sub for much of that first year and started in the first team at the age of 16, he gave Arsenal a fucking heart attack and went on to frighten a number of teams over the next year. At the time everyone was saying he was the best young prospect in Europe, no one has said that of your lad, not even once. Even Liverpool legends think you have paid too much. Andy Carroll is 22, has had half a season of top flight football and yet you seem to think he is worth £9 million more than we paid for an 18 year old who had frightening potential.

Keep living in dreamland.

Speaking to Chelsea TV, Torres said: ‘This is the target for every footballer - to try to play for one of the top clubs in the world and I can do it now. I have to be very, very happy as I am.’

Wouldn't expect any less from him, or any other footballer in all honesty :p

Except JT - role model for youth.
