Its obvious Pepe tried to do Alves. Does anyone know if a player can be sent off purely for intention?

I think they can be. I remember I think it was Henry getting a straight red for a two footed lunge that missed by about 3ft. Ref said if he had connected it would of been nasty.

In slo mo it seems clear that Pepe got the ball which caused Alves to spin and he then made the most of it. I remember hearing that players who brandished fake cards were going to get booked. I remember being glad when it happened to Eboue. That is something that should be a rule. Shirt over your head = yellow card. Taking a shot on goal 1 second after the whistle is blown = yellow card. 10 players asking for a player to be sent off nothing. (Disclaimer I know we are as bad as anyone but after a few bans are handed out it would all stop)

I agree with everyone except Marc. I really hope Real put massive pressure on UEFA asking for Alves to be banned. It was disgraceful from both teams, but even worse from Barca. Referee should be taken off european duty, he was gash.

Barca do this against every "good" team they come across. There was loads of diving and playacting in the matches against us (Arsenal), and they have done it in the big games in Europe season after season.

The reason it gets people's backs up so much are 1) they are shit at doing it but somehow the refs buy it and 2) they are so good they really, really don't need to bother with it.

Alves and Busquets are two of the most detestable people playing football, way ahead of cloggers playing above their skill level who constantly injure people (Shawcross, Henry etc). And they don't go round threatening careers at will.
