Is anyone else getting sick and tired of it all?
I certainly am. I mean no disrespect to the little girl. I feel sorry for her.

The parents - they can certainly go to hell for something they caused in the first place. And, theory is commonplace that they are involved in it as a money scam. Either way, they're both sick parents for leaving their kids unattended at all. They deserve all the heartache they get.

Of course, I'm hoping the kid is alive and well. I'm also hoping the kid was kidnapped (really) by someone desperate for their own children, perhaps someone that is unable to do so.
Because if thats the case, it's very, very likely the child will be treated FAR better than she has been.

Indeed if its something far more sinister, I feel for the child and the child alone - and perhaps any family in the dark and not as moronic as the parents. I'm sick and tired of the media sugar coating it, noone being brave enough to point out what they actually think. I'd not be suprised if a majority of people watching the news and all the shit about the search believe the parents are involved.

Thoughts? This isn't just asking for a debate for the sake of sensationalism - it's my opinion, and it's shared by everyone at my workplace and my families. Thats a lot of people - and we're obviously not alone in thinking it.

Cant agree with you more Kryten.

Ditto.

The parents should be in jail now as they are the first offenders, then whoever took her should join them.

Jesus, I don't even leave my son in his bedroom alone.

I'm starting to feel a little more for the kid - mainly because (as the IRC lot will already know) my wife has just been confirmed pregnant :D Lets just hope Liverpool can match the acheivement of ball in net tonight ;)

I don't think much of the Portugese legal system either :/

Agree, sick of it, Its all very sad for the kid, hopefully she has just been kidnapped as you said by some woman who can't have their own. But leaving children unattended? when there was the option to have them looked after? its just stupid.

Indeed. And regardless of who you are, what job you do etc - your children have to come first. If thats something you can't do, don't have them. But to have 3 and treat them like that?
Who's going to be the worst off- young Madeline or the 2 unfortunate kids who have to remain with those parents.

Its the internet community that is helping this thing continue.

There are so many groups on things like Facebook and Myspace with people begging for her to be returned.

As for thier parents, they deserve to be bollocked for their idiotic behaviour.

Id like this story to go away too, so I dont have to think about what terrible things could have happened or could be happening to that little girl.

As far as blaming the parents goes, well, aint that another sorry internet forum thing, you sit there in your bedroom saying how its thier fault when thier lives are ruined for the sake of a mistake.

Reminds me of Super Gray's comments when those poor girls (nieces of someone I know) died on the motorway. A mistake was made, like we all make mistakes every day, and the most terrible things sometimes happen. It cant be changed, it just IS. But lets not let that get in the way of anything, shall we ?

Utter bollocks I'm afraid throd.

I would never ever leave my son alone, bedroom expert or caring fucking parent?

Yeah you are right I guess, they should of left the 3 toddlers alone while they were out having a meal, hell I might just do that tomorrow night while I am looking after my son, it is not a simple mistake its 2 selfish parents caring more about their social life rather than their kids.

If my son set fire to my house while I was out having a pub meal I would do the decent thing and top myself.

Anyone without kids can hardly comment on this, sorry Leggy you know I love you but how do you know how it feels to have a child and to care for them like you should?

It's not worth descending in debate about it - everyone is bound to have their own opinions, some stronger than others, but theres no doubt - theres a huge element of misconduct. I do admit throd is right in a respect - they're going to pay for this for the rest of their lives - unless of course the conspiracy theories prove correct and they are involved. In which case, laughing all the way to the bank.

I felt sorry for them at first, but even the day after the kid went missing and they were shown on TV - they were far, far, far too calm and straight faced in front of the camera and even talking about it. Anyone with half a heart would have broken down by then.

I just hope it all works out right in the end. As long as the media morons can stop bothering everyone constantly.

Trem thats not the point mate. You dont know anything about the people involved. They have just lost the most important thing in thier lives, and all people here can do is blame them. How do you think they are feeling ? :(

When we was in France last year my wife complained cos our son was too far away from our room. He's seventeen!!!

But thats not the point. The point is someone made a mistake. The people are fairly obviously not scummy folk, but we're so quick to judge it makes me sad.

Well said Throd and Leg.

All very judgemental. I'm sure those parents feel badly enough, I don't know any parents or mates that haven't made big mistakes with their kids, and tbh none of us know or understand the context in which the little girl was taken. And tbh critisising their reactions is just pathetic, nobody here hopefully will ever understand what it feels like to lose contact with one of your children.

And as for 'their mistake', they themselves may have been raised in an environment where its perfectly normal to leave your kids alone for a bit. Its not something I would do, but 20-30 years ago nobody would have batted an eyelid. Of course 20-30 years ago there wasn't the information overload we have now about paedophiles on every street corner.

I'm not sick of hearing about her. I'll never be sick of hearing about a lost little girl and her devastated parents. I have enough patience to feel that way. The rest of you should thank your lucky stars that you're not in the same boat.

Clearly not as important as a night in a restaurant though.

Why do we need to know about the people involved? If they could walk on water would it make it any better a decision to leave 3 toddlers alone in a strange country?

I am sorry but my mind will not be changed on this, how anyone can defend the parents is beyond me, it is awful, horrible, but it needs to start with the mother and father. Not all the prayer meetings and singing and adverts, why isn't there an advert saying 'don't leave your young children alone, its wrong' straight after the 'bring our daughter back advert'?

Tom - your argument doesn't really make sense chum.

Basically I won't be called a bedroom expert and be told to keep my opinion to myself and take it lying down. I am a parent and have my own views on this sort of thing. The opposite argument to mine is still being a bedroom expert surely, but I guess that doesn't matter as I wasn't the first to use those words (bedroom expert).

Mate the point is, I dont think holier than thou judgement on someones mistake is appropriete at the moment, thats all. Even though I agree with you that I would never ever do such a thing, thats not the point. The point is thats its happened, and the last thing anyone needs is people taking it out on the parents, who probably are crucifying themselves every minute of every day.

While the parents are quite obviously at fault i think people are being a bit low here. This is a kid that could be anywhere with any type of freak right now, Surely your concerns should be for her welfare not whether her parents aren't fit to care for children.

I hope they find her alive and well but I don't think its going to happen :(

And yes the parents should be punished

They have a better chance of finding her than joe average. These guys have people in high up places for sure. If they being paid for the priviledge they are as shit as the parents that left them in the room in the first place.

I hope they find her i do, but what the fuck gives them the right to let everyone know about their child, or the hundreds (whatever) that go missing on a day to day basis?

I don't think its holier than thou judgement, I am just angry that their neglect has taken a back seat in all this.

Lets agree to disagree and lets hope the girl gets back safe and sound then hopefully the parents will have to answer some questions.

I actually lost my rag earlier in this thread at being called a bedroom expert, so apologies to you throd if I offended but I don't think I did. I do know where you are coming from but I cannot get past the actual root cause of this....neglect.

With the greatest of respect, this isn't really true, despite what the Daily Mail would say.

My God, I almost invoked Godwin's Law then.

The world is extremely unfair, we are worying about this porr lil girl while every day thousands of africans children are dying. We are still talking of the terrorist attack on London, while every day hundreds die in Irak. It seems that if the victims are not from a rich country as ours, they don't matter to anyone.

I agree with the Kryten, while also seeing the other views about people making mistakes.

However if a some so called Chav parents went over the road to a pub for some food while they left their kids at home alone in this country and something happened to them you would all be on here screaming that the parents should have been killed at birth or something and they have no place in society or rights to have kids.

The only difference I see is that they have a little bit of money which of course makes all your mistakes go away and all the blame gets stuck on someone else.

I am sick of hearing about the parents staying strong and being brave. This country needs to be educated in what bravery is because as far as England goes the whole England team are heroes and they actually fucking believe it as well.

They also have no right for criticising the Portuguese authorities just because they go about it a proper way and do not have the Daily Sport highlighting all the key facts and leads on the front page everyday does not mean its a shit way of doing it.

Anyway I hope she is ok and I hope she is found safe and sound. I can just see the stories now, the parents making a fortune from selling the story our holiday nightmare...

Actually, a quick google turns up this, which suggests an average of one child below the age of 14 goes (or at least, is reported to have gone) missing every day.

Noone is suggested it's right, noone is suggesting theres any poetic justice happening. It's more of a "what do you expect, take your kids to a random country and take less care there than you should even at home".

Theories aside, I just hope the kid has been abducted by someone wanting their own child, however that situation is likely to raise alarm bells easily, whereever they are in the world. "Hmm, you've gone through 9 months of pregnancy and 4 years of youth rather quickly"...

Mostly cancelled, unfortunately it doesn't record how many of them are below the age of 5.

It also doesn't record how many of those cancelled were reported within the same duration, or give a breakdown of the reasons for cancellation. The point was that the statement "kids go missing every day" is apparently correct, whether or not that 'missing' status is later cancelled.
