Check out this new online game from the makers of 3D Balls Up, it's a web based game using Havok physics. A level editor is included, and you can post your custom levels to the forum.

Check it out here...

Apologies, there seemed to be a problem with the company hosting our web site ( the server crashed ). I've just checked, and the link seems to be working again.

:) We're game developers Jim, not technicians! :)

I tried it a little earlier, and tbh I thought it was a bit slow & you had to be too careful... I remember a game for the C64 years ago that had similar type thing, but you went forward the whole time & different coloured squares did different things like speed / jump / reverse controls / big jumps - that was fun :)

LOL! Please do, they might be looking for a developer do create a PC version of SMB!

From a serious point of view, it's getting tricky to define what influences a new game can use without getting letters from a legal department etc.

Super Monkey Ball could be seen as an influence, but so could Marble Madness, which was an obvious influence for SMB ( did the Marble Madness lawyers get on to AV I wonder? ).

3D Stress Ball takes the concept of rolling a surface to make a spherical object move, which I'm sure people have been doing for centuries ( remember those small toys in the luck bags where you had to get your ball through a maze and into a hole ).

If you thought up a game involving zapping aliens, could Atari sue you for infringement of their Space Invaders IP? It's getting to be a web of litigation out there for game developers! :(

I believe in trying to make a fun game, even if that involves using ghost cars or patterned borders ( two of the many obvious techniques patented by some naughty game development companies in order to stop other developers using them, and therefore possibly decreasing the quality of other games ).

Does your machine have a problem viewing Shockwave 3D content? Go to www.macromedia.com/shockwave and in the [Showcase] -> [Inspiration] section, see if any of the demos there work. If not, your machine has a Shockwave and Macromedia problem ( maybe you're running a weird version of Netscape ).

netscape? yuchhhh

Shockwave tends to work fine.. I'll test out that link though..

edit, the games on the site work. On your site, I get the shockwave loading logo, but it sits there doing nothing :|

We might look at doing a game using a similar game mechanic to TrailBlazer, but with more of an emphasis on realistic physics ( ability to bounce off certain side walls, hit moving obstacles etc ).

It's tough getting time to implement all these games! :)
