ive been training for it (45 mile one) for the last few months, and did a nice 50 mile walk around dartmoor from saturday to sunday.... bloody nackered now!

The best bit of the weekend was the journey there, as some nice women on a passing mini buss on the m5 decided to flash at us. bargain!

anyway, a few pictures of the days. if i can find the camera ill take one of my big toenail which is now falling off....

Would that be Ten Tors
Been a long time since I heard that. Never actually did it, too much like hard work for me, I liked my walking to be more leisurely and enjoyable. Did a couple of 50 mile / 2 day comps in my youth, but in easier walking country. Done a few expeditions around the moors as well.

You realise of course that if you want to finish anywhere competetively you will need to run round.....

Good luck.

When I was young and actually fit, I used to do lots of hiking. The most ambitious one we ever went on was the Downsman Hike (60 miles in a day or something) but I'll admit we never completed it. Not because of fitness, but because the only one of us that could competently read a map was on holiday at the time, and so we just ended up getting massively lost. There was even a search party :( We managed to clock up about 40 miles before the humiliation though, which isn't bad.

I loved hiking. It just feels very liberating, and kind of amazing, finding the parts of England that aren't all roads and lightbulbs and exhaust fumes and hateful people.

I did it a couple of years ago but had to stop after 40 odd miles because my feet were bleeding

my boots were too small and i hadn't worn them in properly :(

As a cyclist Id just like to say that all Ramblers/Hikers (call them what you like) are horrible, nasty people who blame everything but themselves for the county's trails and footpaths being closed. </rant>

Well done though EvilMonkeh

Do they still have the "post boxes" hidden in the Tors with signing books, or have they all been nicked nowadays?

Oh, and Damini, you definately don't wanna go on Dartmoor if ya have trouble navigating, as the rocks can cause your compass to be out by 90° !

heh setting off tomorrow morning, down the old m5 to dartmoor.

if anyone feels particuarily smug and warm, and feels like laughing at me, the status of my team can be found here. search for Chipping Sodbury School at some point over the weekend, im doing the 45 mile one.

anyway, back to packing :D

my pedom-o-ter says 96km / 110,086 steps. steps are probably accurate but not sure about distance.
we saw lots of helicopters, and lots of other people walking. and it was bloody hot!

my friend filmed some of the helicopters that landed next to us, i might be able to get the video...

anyway im going to bed.
