I know it was a bit random :) Trem my dog is NEVER CONFUSED!!

(Its been a year....)

I just remembered a good one. This bloke in the shop was being a right pain in the arse, I was getting impatient with him. After a while he went into the next building, and I wearily turned to an older bloke looking at a bike and said something like "he's a bit of a wanker aint he?"

The older bloke said

wait for it

"thats my son".

Yes he really did :(

BUT I STILL SOLD HIM A BIKE!!! Damn I was good. What a waste :(

hmm recently at a DR test after about 15 hours of troubleshooting my counterpart and I sat back, looked at each other and thought we'd made it. just kill any java processes on the acceptance machines and we're away he says, so I start up putty and about a minute later I'm wondering why I don't have root on the acceptance application backend like I should. never mind he says, I'm sick of this shite, just do the kill trick so we can go home, so I do. two minutes later a whole bunch of phones start ringing, and people are asking him and myself why the production insurance website (nation wide ahem) isn't working any more o0

Nothing really major, though i picked the wrong career in accountancy which bored the fuck out of me for years until I changed career, sure I get paid a bit less now but I am far happier :)

I was working in an accounts closures department for a bank immediately after I left uni and someone in the contact centre took the wrong message from a customer which was to close one of his accounts down. The contact centre agent took the note to "close their plan" as opposed to "account". I shut down their two current accounts (terminating all their direct debits and standing orders in the process), ISAs, savings accounts, moved their money to clear debt and wrote them a cheque for the cash left over.

Naturally, they were absolutely livid. The wrote letters to the company wanting me sacked, they threatened legal action, going to the papers etc. Nothing came of it and they managed to reverse most of the damage.

I'm glad it happened in a way, it made me a much stronger player, it made me realise to be abolutely sure of things before going ahead with potentially destructive actions.

However, I realise that humans themselves are not as bright as they think they are. Even to this day, if you meet with a customer (external or internal) and you agree on a proposal and draw up a technical document that the customer signs off; you still get the "ack, that's not quite what we wanted actually" or "what we asked for isn't giving us what we needed, can we change the requirements?".

That's what I hate about contractors and that's why a lot of places are using offshore contractors who do give a shit because they're paid in bread and grains of rice.

Sure their Engrish is shit, but at least their not your typical ignorant Brit.

Sorry, I've dealt with Indian contractors who may have given a shit, but were such fucking muppets they probably caused more damage by trying too hard without having a clue what they were doing.

I'm sure you have gaff, but one thing worse than an indian contractor who gives a shit but fucks up is a british contractor who isn't really that good, fucks up and doesn't give a shit. Those are the worst.

I guess it depends on whether you take intentions into account, and how much you value them :)

At the end of the day though a fuck up is a fuck up - actions speak louder than words etc. In one way I suppose it doesnt matter how good your intentions are if you screw up as it doesnt change what you did. On the other hand, if your intentions are good then atleast you'll probably try your best to rectify any screw ups you do make, so I suppose it swings in roundabouts.
