building a new 2nd pc, will be a bit of a powerhouse and not sure whqat route to take with monitor

have a few old non tft 17" ones lying about but fancy somethin a bit bigger, and all the new lcd tvs have a vga slot so its poss to hook up a pc to em and use as a monitor and they run at 1376 res. so its not bad

question is, does anyone actually do this? i have a 5.1 1000w cinema jobbo as well so an lcd wouldnt be a major waste even if it was craptastic as a monitor, just wanted opinions and experiences people have had with using summet like this as a monitor. a 37" screen would make my bloodletter pets about 1ft irl

o yea and any suggestions to do with pc specs would be nice, anyone know what the threshold for running 2 accs on /stick is using DR clients?or has lag obliterated that one?

I have a Windows Media Center PC instead of a DVD recorder, which uses a TFT-TV as Monitor. Works fine, even for DAOC, allthough the resolution is abit to low for my taste, to use it as a main monitor.

Every new TFT-TV comes with a VGA and/or HDMI plug. You can easily connect those with ur gfx card, set the resolution and there u go. Make sure the TV also has a sound in on the same chanel, or you will have to buy extra speakers.

the gfx card is semi outdated for the other stuff your running

so 2gb ram and a newish cpu w/ mb and 7000+ range nvidia will do it?

i wasnt gonna go as big as 52", was thinking more around 32/37

will resolution at 1024 look silly on that?

i use a 32" lcd, and its superb! its got a gazillion inputs, so you can plug the pc directly on to the screen. it got 3 scart entrances, and 1 s-vid. and you can switch between playing daoc, watching tv, watch 15 minitv's on the screen and so on. you can also play on PC while watching tv, witch is uber:)

as for the system; i got a amd 1800xp, 1gb ddr3200 gf4ti4800, and quite some GB's:p sux really, cant even dual log:<

I run one p4 3ghz 2gig ram nvidia 6800xt on the main machine
Amd 1800 (1.5ghz) ATI radion 6400 1 gig on the second machine both with cataclient. however i turn the characters back to old world with the second machine as it runs much better. Never have any problems with lag with the bot on stick.

k thnx for input

been looking around and decided to make a daddy of all pcs (to an extent)

never really gone the whole way but gonna put in:

asus m32n sli mboard (150ish) - 2x pci16x and a whole load of other bobbins

amd x2 4600+ duel core 1mb cache 1066 fsb (165ish)

2048 mb ram pc6400 (600mhz) (180ish)

2x 320gb western cava' hdds SATA2 on raid (140ish)

and an nvidia 7900gs 512mb (seen a cheap sparkle one for 180)

some form of water cooling (110ish)

and a logi mx518 / g15 keyboard (100ish!!! but never strayed from microsoft appliances thought it was time :O)

o and a dvd rw

am i missing anything? mboard has built in ethernet and 802.11 wifi (il run cable connection ethernet for now as i dont trust wireless :p)

o and the almighty 32" jet black samsung tv (can grab it for 750ish due to where i work :D)

more comments pls!

and why is 30"+ too big? ^_^

ooo ooo one more question

the new nvidia gfx cards have hd output (high def)- and the samsung has rgp (hd) in puts on back of it, will it all work out nicely and give me mega refresh rates?

ty in advance!

I use a 10 y/o 17'' CRT monitor, and hey, it does the job  I don't see the use in getting anything over 2x inches, unless you plan on using it for a console or whatever to have it clearly visible for a number of people.

Basically the setup of my second PC I finished last week. I got two Corsair XMS PC6400 sticks from Overclockers. I went for 2 x BFG 7900 Graphics Card and Seagate HDD's but other than that its the same.

The Mobo is superb and fully deserves the top slot in PC Pro recommended list. The automitic settings for overclocking are very easy to use and give great performance even when using standard fans. I'll upgrade to water cooling soon as possible as the Mrs says it makes too much noise :). The one draw back of this Mobo is the one ATA connection. Two slots would have made it easier for me to copy old data over from the older drives. Plus I would have left two in to store all the crap (ok pron!) ;)

One thing you will run into - If loading XP fresh on to SATA drives you need to make two diskettes for the SATA drivers and load these on the initial options in XP. Press F6 if you need to load any additional SCSI etc...

Basically if you XP load normally and you'll get blue screen of death on first boot.
