...., now anyone knows who it is from?

I vaguely associate it with Oscar Wilde but I read it in German years ago, so was never quite sure of the original English phrase - anyway, it was a famous smart guy who supposedly said it.

Can anyone PLEASE enlighten me? This lack of quote allocationis ruining my otherwise pleasant day....
