oh, my one other gripe about bognor... is that fish and chip shop right next door to the crazy golf place....

Yes. That's just the run of the mill stuff and I went to a fairly good school.

Teach A-Level, all the 'tards who don't want to learn are either too thick or would rather sit on street corners drinking white lightning.

Although, if you do want to teach at secondary school then go for it, provided you're thick skinned enough. There's not enough good teachers in secondary schools :/

Yet another point. My history teacher demands we put our bags on the floor, the reason being that in his old school, if the pupils left their bags on the desk it meant they were going to throw stuff at him.

It depends on what location and school you'd teach in, you can get the "rough" schools which can be the absolute pits (due to students), then you can get the "posh" schools which can also be the absolute pits (due to the students and teachers snobbery).

I'd agree with mank on his point about teaching A-level. You're left with the people who actually (mostly) take the subject seriously.

Then again, my english teacher says that she loved our year (for GCSE) as we were the best workers, funny and polite.

All down to pot-luck i suppose

My gf is a teacher who specialises at dealing with the roughest of the rough kids at secondary level. She loves it and is in demand as she'll work at schools that others won't teach and then deal with their headcase kids.

I have to say from getting to know all of her teaching friends she is in minority of one They all range from seriously depressed to stressed out. Most if not all are looking at getting out of the profession.

Btw they do all say while secondary kids might be little shites, teaching younger kids is like being a full time nanny and drives them insane in 2 mins flat. My gf tried it for a few months and it was pure hell for her.

I thought about doing a PGCE for all of 2 seconds - gf reminded me that I fking hate kids, and you have to love them.

Remember btw, demand for higher education jobs is insane. Of course most teachers would like to deal with people who want to be there - hence its very very very tough to get one. Pay and conditions aren't the best either from what the gf tells me.

Why not try it - if you don't like it at least you've had a go?

I dont see the appeal of being a teacher...the pay is pretty crap, kids are so annoying, the only good thing is the long holidays.

Office Job for me, sit around posting on forums all day.

I went to what Munkeh called a "Posh school", all bar one school in this area are of a very high standard results wise. We had all the extra funding for Technology etc etc yada yada.

It still doesn't detract from the point that at secondary schools their are those tards who don't want to be there and other such reasons for being f**king awful.

For that reason (And i have the advantage of very recent experience here) i have the upmost respect for teachers even, dare i say it the stupid old fools who had it in for me.

I went to one of the better schools in Oxfordshire and it was just how you described. Except it recieved extra funding for foreign languages and not technology. The teachers there were mostly shit, but they had to put up with a fair bit from some of the 'tards (and me) so I guess they deserve some respect.

I went to the the local hell hole, cos I only moved to england when people in my age group were in year 8, and none of the other schools had room.

Some of the best teachers I ever had taught there... and from what I hear from my bro (who went to the top public school in the area), the teachers there aren't very good

I always found out that the teachers who were firm but nice always had the students on better behaviour than the ice queen's and sweatshop teachers

I remember being in bottom set in year 9 for english (this is in a deprived area, and my group we're all pikies and trouble makers)
And I don't think my teacher shouted once.... she was just herself, and everything got done...

still Damini, I reckon a drama degree could come in handy when teaching.... act like you're getting furious for extra effect, over exagerate on the good / poor performances... teaching is what you make it I guess

I had the misfortune of helping out in a secondary school a few years ago - never again!!!

The kids are getting MUCH worse - they have no respect for adults any more, let alone the older kids. When I was a first year at high school in 1990, we were scared to death of the older kids. I remember that by the time I had got to the final year, the first years were little shits who would swear and spit at you.

Have you heard the new 'languages' that teenagers are using now? Here are examples:
