In law the age of consent is 16 but in practice children 13+ can consent - below that age theres a statutory presumption that they didnt consent.

Its a little confusing but that means the effective age of consent is 13 in the uk - weird huh?

What this hinges on of course is the definition you attach to the age of consent. I see it as the age of which you can engage in sexual activity legally without interference. In this case, the 'effective' age of consent is still 16, before if an older person has sex with an under 16, they ARE liable for conviction; although this isn't always the case. I guess you could argue that 13 is an age at which you can consent to sex too though.

I have to disagree;

A: I think scouse would be excellent as a slave trader.

C: I think a prick, when talking consent, is necessary in the equation.

We also need to be aware that due to this crazy law, you can actually be a victim and a criminal.

I can't remember details but a 13 or 14 y/o girl had sex with a 13 or 14 y/o boy in America and she faced a criminal conviction yet was also considered a victim.

If they had been 16, they'd be no problem. So the age of consent is certainly a foggy area attributed to mere definitions and viewpoints.
