today we all know petrol prices rose by 2p.
we also know the legal age to buy fags went up from 16-18.
imo this will cause less fags to be bought, therfore lowering the amount of tax the government will obtain.

Upping the age limit to 18 in order to buy cigs wont really have that much of an effect as the government know 16 year olds will just buy them from a pub, or get someone else to buy them. It just makes the government "look good"

I used to do that in Secondary school buy fags with my luch money and sell them to 1st and 2nd years for 50p £1 each used to make a fortune. I once got £10 for one fag only to watch the kid not inhale

I done the exact same. An asian bloke at the bus station used to serve me in my uniform. I used to take them to school and sell to for 50p or 3 for £1. I used to make my smoke, and my lunch

Smokers generate about 17 billion per year in tax, combined with the 9 billion "strain" they put on the NHS.

A pack of 20 cigs costs about 1 quid to make, now, most packs cost nearly a fiver, thats 4 quids worth of taxes.

Multiply 4 pounds by around 6 million people (10% of the Uk population) buying a pack a day

Around 24 million quid a day from Smokers alone

You should pay for your cancer, not for your smoking.

So, if you smoke(which they can check) and you get lung cancer, then you pay more.

Well that's how it works in my opinion too.

In finland you actually pay for the days you spend in the hospital too.

And you pay from your pay to healthcare.

And you pay 22% from all groceries in tax.
